Rear defrost button (bulb)

Hi

I recently got a new deck installed. After i had it installed, the interior lights weren't illuminating. I took it back and they got them all working except for the rear defrost button. The led works, but not the illumination.

Does anyone know which kind of bulb I would need for that? Also for the climate control bulbs, any idea what size they are.
I've got some 12V 168's...?

Are they dome lights?

Thanks!!

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

They're tiny little buggers in screw-in plastic housings. Are we talking EM2/ES1 or EP3 here? I know on the EM2 and ES1 common practice is to replace them with LEDs, both for looks and efficiency, although that's a lame reason. It's probably going to be a Honda part if you want a direct drop-in replacement.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

em2 - coupe
es1 - sedan
ep3 - hatch (Si)

The only knowledge I have of those bulbs is from replacing them with LEDs. Might be tough to find the bulbs alone. Not too sure though.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

As per the first post - his car is an EM2 (si veloz is a canadian model)
For the size, i dunno. Search it. Gearbox will know, let's see if he reads this thread.

I'd say while you're replacing the light, just drop in LED's in all of the spaces.

EM1 - EX Sedan
ES3 - Hybrid
ES2 - LX/DX Coupe
ES1 - LX/DX Sedan
EP3 - Si

also, i'm pretty sure those are only 7th gen codes. i know 5th and 6th gen have different codes. i haven't paid attention to 8th gens since i don't have one.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

i think the em1 code belongs to the 99-00 civic si. es2 is the chassis code for the ex sedan. em2 is also the code for all 7thgen coupes.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

yep. just found this:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1928390
i guess the thread here needs to be updated. ES3 wasn't even a USDM code? ES9 is the 03-05 hybrid.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

It's very, very simple. If you can install a headunit, you can replace the light. Once you take out the center console, the one with the headunit and HVAC buttons, there's the little pod that has the three HVAC buttons. There's actually only two lights that serve as the backlighting. You should be able to guess which one went out. Using a flathead screwdriver, just turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise, and it'll drop out. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Re: Rear defrost button (bulb)

well if you screwed the dash piece back on, you got more work. i left mine out so i can just yank the panel out. but yeah you have to take the panel off that has the radio and buttons in it and then the bulb is visible from the back.

you can use the radio install diy. there are two white holders on the inside of the climate control unit and two grey ones on the circ/ac/defrost unit. i would just replace them all at once since you got it cracked open!
