Subs/Speakers
Subs/Speakers
i have 2 questions
1) i have 2 apline type r subs powered by a Rockford Fosgate - Punch 500W so i no that my subs def arent being pushed to there potential and i want to know wat kinda amp i could get that would push my subs harder without blowin them?
2) i want to get some speakers for the inside of my car and im not really sure wat i need to look for, so if i could get some advice and suggest some speakers... and if i would need to get another amp or not????
thanks

Re: Subs/Speakers
depends. I had to alpine type r subs as well. they were dual voice coil 4 so when I wired them together, it was 4 ohm. they can handle 500rms each. Looking for something like a 4ohm mono block 1000w rms or 500 x 2 at 2 ohms.
Re: Subs/Speakers
Depending on your budget, you might want to get type R door speakers. I have them, and they sound good even if they are slightly underpowered. If you are looking for something cheaper, buy clarions, they make a quality speaker and they are a but cheaper than the other brands like alpine and phoenix gold. I would recommend against buying anything from a department store like wal-mart. Despite their success in the home theater industry, Sony does NOT make good car audio.
Re: Subs/Speakers
For amps, i recommend the Alpine PDX-1.600 , You wont need 1000rms because the range on the R's is 500RMS and 1500 peak so 600watts is all your gonna need get the subs to kick nicely. I recommend Infinity Kappa or Reference Speakers all around. Infinity is manufactured by Harmon Kardon, which produces great receivers and speakers that are very rich and clear. The references are the cheaper ones but they sound great.
I'd also recommend getting a Rockford Fosgate .5 farad cap as well.
As for the rockford, sell it or hold on to it. If your getting speakers, dont run it off the head unit. I also would recommend the Alpine MRP-F250, RMS Power is 40x4 @ 4ohms and its also stackable with the other Amp as well.

Re: Subs/Speakers
well if he bridged a 600rms amp he could (give or take a few watts) keep the same amount of watts rms to both subs. guess he would have to check if the sub and amps can drop down to 2ohms.
I mean the subs are 500 rms, so he wants to stay above the 500 watt (rms) range, or else there could be damage done to the subs or even the amp.

Re: Subs/Speakers
You never want to underpower, you can cause clipping and that will cost you more than the amount you save. Having a little more power and using it a little less is better than having very little and having the gain to full.
Infinity's if you have subs a great choice the 6022 or 6012s are a great choice gives you great sound clairty.

Re: Subs/Speakers
I thought clipping waas only when the sub was overpowered. The sin/cosine waves of the sound would be amplified to outside of the amplifiers range, causing it to flatline at the top, also known as clipping. which is very bad.
Re: Subs/Speakers
Just throwing my two cents in, but I just finished an install for the speakers within my 2001 Civic sedan. I would highly recommend Eclipse SE8365 (3-way) and Polk db651 for the rear deck.
I guess it all depends on what you are going for within your car. I would amp the cabin speakers if you are going for loudness, but with the Pioneer P5000UB HU, I say it is loud enough for me. But I was going for a budget/clean sounding audio.
From what I read about the 2-way Polks though, it is best to amp them to hear their full potential. Keep in mind that the Polks are marine-certified, which might make them awesome for the front doors (you know, with water and all)
Oh and the db651 would fit in the rear deck, against what Crutchfield says. I just drilled new holes in the metal itself! I would avoid the db651s (shallow mount) due to the lack of bass response, as compared to the regular 651.

Re: Subs/Speakers
if defineltely heard good things about polk. if i were you, i would amp some Alpine type-r components or polk components. i have amped type-r coaxils and they sound clean as hell. good luck!
