Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
Alright, I'm installing some Alpine 6x9 SPR-69C's on the rear deck and plan on installing new speakers in the front doors. And still use the stock radio deck. Now I'm completely, 100%, hands-down, new to this
.
According the Crutchfield, the Alpine SPR-17S's are 6 3/4" (and it says "DOES NOT FIT") but everywhere else (bestbuy.com, alpine's website) says it does fit, and that the SPR-17S's are really 6 1/2". Obviously, I should go with Alpine's website (duh?), but Crutchfield saying this makes me nervous.
Who should I go with? And is there anything I should consider when installing (like problems with the fitting, or the wiring or anything!)?

Re: Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
spacer is for the front doors. i moves the speaker away from the door panel so the window won't hit the back of the speaker when you roll it down.
Re: Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
Looks like these guys covered the fitting thing...
as for wires, I would assume it to be pretty simple, just disconnect the old speakers and reconnect the wires to the new ones.
I don't know what kind of budget you have but while you're at it, you should consider getting some Dynamat speaker packs. if you're not familiar with it, Dynamat is a sound dampening material that you would put around your speakers in this case, to prevent vibrations between the speaker and the deck. it's not all that expensive, really, since you'd only be using small amounts of it around your speakers. also, if you can, try to put some sound absorbing foam behind/under the speaker. otherwise, the sound coming out of the back of the speaker will hit the inside of your door and bounce back towards the speaker, which I think is called backwave distortion. if you put deadening material and foam behind the speaker, it will sound tighter and you'll get a lot more out of your new speakers.
if you really wanna go to town with the Dynamat, you can get a big pack of it (or two) and put some all over your doors and in your floor, in the trunk...but that'd be getting expensive. to me, that's only worth it if you're really **** but keeping road noise out.

okay awesome guys, thanks! i've added a .75" spacer to the list!
about the Dynamat though, would i really need it? I'm not going to be pumping a lot of power into the speakers as of right now, because i'm only using the stock deck. however I do have a Dual XDM6820 deck sitting in my closet. How difficult would it be to replace the stock deck with that Dual?

Re: Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
just a heads up, the spacer that crutchfield sent with my infinity cs6010's didn't fit the speakers. the diameter was too small. i wound up having to make my own out of MDF. you can see how in my DIY in my sig.

Re: Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
I have 2-way Alpine Type R's all the way around (6.5 in the front and 6x9 in the rear). I needed spacers for the front, but the ones that came with the speakers from alpine worked perfectly. Mounted right up with no modification needed.
Re: Question about Crutchfield and My Set-up
did the 6x9's fit with no modification? are they amped? how to you like them?
