wee! finally setup my car audio... minus the sub
since it was a 3 day weekend for me, I decided to put in my audio stuff. Boy, was that quite a bit of work... and a ton of hours. I'm sure I probably took longer than most people. Did a little bit here and there Sat & Sun and almost 8 hours yesterday.
Rewiring the speakers is SUCH a pain in the butt! I was going to route the wires through the same place as all the cables, but after about an hour of fiddling with it, I decided to use the little round rubber piece left of big rubber piece that holds all the cables. I got some wire conduits, about 2" long and wrapped it up with electrical tape. I then put a hole in the round piece, stuck it through (tapped up wire conduit), and cut a little slit on the exiting rubber and poked the wires through. So much easier, should of done that to begin with.
Similar issues with the speakers =\. I had read about how the hole is small but didn't think much of it, all other cars I've put speakers into, they've fit fine. So I mess with how to possibly fit the speakers with the given hardware and gave up after about an hour of messing with it. Instead of going for a spacer, I decided to go out and get a dremel and cut out the little bit of metal that wouldn't let the speaker in. I gotta say, dremel ROCKS!! I used the round metal cutting disc, it was sooo easy, came out pretty nice too =) Now there's a round hole instead of the weird one that it came with. There's not too much to cut either... piece I cut of looked like a small crescent moon, biggest width of it being about maybe an inch.
Tweeters were easy though, just had to shave off the little bit of plastic (square) on the inside so that the tweeter would sit flat on it. So after countless hours, I finally got everything all wired up, and it sounds sooooooooo much better than the stock speakers.
The infinity's are pretty nice =) My only complaints are the metra kit (deck sits a little into the dash) and the stupid glare!@#! I can barely read the display.
My system:
Eclipse 5303R HU
Zapco Studio 100
Infinity Kappa 60.3cs
Now I just need to get a sub... but much happier with the car audio now. Suggestiong for a sub? Going to use my zapgo ag360 for it. Haven't decided whether to get just 1 12" or 2 10"s.
