where to ground amp under seat?

Before you ask, yes, I searched. All the threads I found were about where to ground an amp in the trunk. I just ordered my amp and I want to mount it under one of my front seats. Where should I put my ground? Where do you guys that have an amp under your seat have your ground? Pics would be helpful.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

If you're planning to pull the seat out for this install it shouldn't be hard at all. Cut away some carpet and you'll see nothing but metal.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

You wouldnt even need to cut carpet.... get a big ring terminal, use the seat mounting bolt.

Or, run a wire up under the center console where there is no carpeting.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

Make sure to fully remove any paint from the metal before attaching the screw and grounding wire. Rough the surface up with sandpaper, a wire brush on a drill, whatever will fully remove the paint. If I were mounting it under a seat, I'd probably just use one of the seat bolts to ground to so that I do not have to drill an additional hole. If you do drill an additional hole, make sure to go under the car and spray the bolt that sticks through after running it through the floor pan with a rubberized undercoating, or some kind of sealant to protect if from rusting out and causing a short circuit.

all good suggestions but make sure to scratch all the paint/primer down to bare metal before installing the ground cable to it wherever you decide!

If i ground to the seat bolt, do I need to scratch all the paint off the bolt and seat frame?

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

^^haha. I was just asking cause I wouldn't want to ground it there because you would see a spot of bare metal in my interior. I think I'm going to ground it to something in the center console.

Nope, it's actually pretty cool underneath the seats.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

It won't overheat. Especially since I bought an Alpine PDX. They are extremely efficient. They run so cool that you can even stack them on top of each other.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

And if overheating becomes a slight problem, it's really cheap to install some PC fans to cool them. Shouldn't be a problem though as long as the cooling fins aren't inhibited from doing their job by screwing them down tight in the carpet. Just add a spacer board in there and it'll let it cool very efficiently.

The only real potential problem with installing under the seat is if you have backseat passengers they could, in theory, possibly kick the amps on accident or knock a wire off. A proper install and even that isn't a concern.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

I took the center console out real quick, and I think I'm just going to ground to the base of the e-brake. It looks to be the perfect size. I still haven't decided If I'm going to put it under the seat or not. I would put it in the trunk, but car break-ins are rampant at my university.

Knowing Memphis, my car could just get stolen and they wouldn't care about the amp.

Especially if you drink a lot of Guiness. Beer farts = air movement. No need for PC fans.

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

mines grounded to the e-brake. been working fine for over 6 months. just be careful how you place the amp for its wires, cause some people are tools and like to stick their feet under the seat...

Re: where to ground amp under seat?

under your center console, there is a big bolt. i used that. it a good stable ground to ur chasis. plus i grounded that stright to the battery.

all electronics in my car are grounded to that single point. so i dont get the alt wine.
