Amp + sub problems...
Amp + sub problems...
This is not exactly specific to the honda civic, but that's what it's going in
Anyway, I've got a Hifonics 1606D sub amp going into 2 kicker 12" L7's. My head unit is a Pioneer deh-p6900. Problem is, with all the connections made, the subs are getting no signal.
Now, all this stuff is new, so it's fairly unlikely that something is just "bad." The head unit turns on and works fine, the amp is on (as confirmed by the lit "power" led), and the sub connections are also fine. I've wired the subs together in parallel with both voice coils on both subs to get a load in the circuit of 1 ohm, which is supported by the amp.
There are 2 rca's in the amp's input plugs, and those are both from the SW output on the head unit.
The only thing that's not what it should be is the battery fuse. My buddy was jacking around with the connections up there last night and he shocked himself, and I looked at the fuse this morning and it was blown >< Not having another 100A fuse, I pulled out a 70A fuse and decided to try it with all the volume/gain settings turned all the way down. Still no luck with that, but the fuse is still fine.
Any thoughts on this? It's really bugging the hell out of me.

Re: Amp + sub problems...
If the amp is turning on its not a power cable, remote turn on, or ground issue.
If your not getting any signal "music" to your subs. You have to check the following items: Speaker wire from amp to subs, RCA cables from deck to amp, Check the amp settings to see what their at, and if you have them turned on through your deck.
Check to see you have the subs turned on from your deck. With Pioneer CD players you can turn the subs on and off from the unit itself.
Check your RCA cables, they could either be bad or be lose.
Check your gain, maybe you have it too low?
Try unplugging one side of your RCA's from the amp. Have only the left plugged in or only the right plugged in. See if that does anything
Try those things, if that doesnt work write back and state what exactly is the problem and ill try my best to help you.

Re: Amp + sub problems...
Yup, I've tried those things so far as I know.
I've checked the head unit, and turned every sub-related option I could find to "on." I've checked the wiring for the subs 10 times. I've got them wired like so...http://www.jbl.com/car/product_suppo...spx?type=2-4-1
The positive and negative leads going to the amp are just connected to a single positive and a single negative terminal of the amp, although there are two pairs of these terminals. I've also tried different configurations of connections using these terminals, but nothing seems to have made a difference.
As for the RCA's, they seem fine, no loose connections there. They're new as well, so it's unlikely that they'd be bad. Also, I thought maybe the amp was being a bit screwy about the two rca inputs because it's a subwoofer amp, and maybe only needs mono, so I did try unplugging one of the rca leads, which didn't change anything unfortunately.
The gain on the amp itself has been spun all the way around after all of the above has been addressed, and we can't even hear a slight buzz : /
As far as I can tell, there is a problem either with the signal from the deck to the amp or with the power delivery to the subs. I could always check the amp output with a multimeter or something, and I guess if that's showing something, then there's something definitely wrong with the subwoofer wiring scheme. As for the RCA's...I dunno how to tell if there's a signal there.
I'd appreciate any more tips anyone has. In the meantime, back to troubleshooting.

Re: Amp + sub problems...
It could be a number of things. Troubleshooting ICE can be very easy or very hard and time consuming. You can use a multimeter to test wether or not the rca's are fine. Test for continuity color for color, or if you don't have color bands on the rca's, left to left and right to right. If it doesn't show continuity on one side, then your rca's are indeed bad. Otherwise, check your sub wiring. Wiring subs in paralell or series to obtain a lower ohm level can be funny sometimes. If you can, post pics of your set up and zoom in on the connections.
Re: Amp + sub problems...
Resolved. The only thing that changed was that the head unit was reset and all the sub options turned on again. Works like a charm
Thanks for the help!
