'03 Front Door Speakers
Okay guys,
Don't shoot the new guy with this question because I know I should search the forums to find this answer, but the problem is I cannot get an accurate or consistent response.
Alright, I am going to be installing a stereo system into my 2003 Civic EX Sedan with the purpose to be very high sound quality. I don't need the ghetto bass or anything like that. There are three things I would like to get cleared up:
Basically, what is the mounting depth for the front speakers? I have seen anywhere from 1.75" to 1-15/16". Does anyone have an accurate measurement?
Secondly, what is the maximum spacer depth that can be installed with the door panels still going back on right? Again, I have heard and read anywhere from 0.75" to 1.0"...
Third, where is the best location for the amps to be installed? Can they be screwed into the back seats with self-tapping screws, or is there a better location?
Thank you all for your help!

ask crutchfield... they have all the info ur trying to figure out. you cant put them on the back of ur rear seats (why dont u go check for urself?), but i slipped in a thin peice of plywood underneath the seat cover in the back seat so its a flat surface..and then drilled my amp to that. came out very clean actually and with a little force it wasnt that hard. or ive herd people putting the amps under the seat but id be afraid the people in my back seat will be kicking them or what not. plus it sounds like a hard to reach place in case u want to tune ur amp or do any disconnecting/reconnecting. u can always build an amp rack for the trunk if u wanted sumthing nice.
also if i might ask what are u going to use for the very high sound quality system ur putting together.. and hey..not all bass is ghetto. really..it isnt.

Under the seat is a good spot but just remember in the winter time there will be heat blowing on the amp from the vent. Shove a sock or something in there to keep it cool.

cant do it in the back seat with self tapping screws... theres nothing for the screws to screw into.. lol.. i tried this with my amp for my subs.. theres only foam and metal springs there.. best idea i think would be to take some time and build a nice custom amp rack in the back

Okay,
Primarily, I am looking for the maximum spacer depth with the door panels still fitting on in stock, unaltered form. I have searched the forums for this, but nobody has a clear or consistent response.
The reason I am asking is that I will be dynamatting the hell out of my doors and want to get a component speaker system with a 2.5" mounting depth. Problem is, I need to know (before I drop $330 on front components) if they will fit with the door panels.
Thanx again.

Re: '03 Front Door Speakers
^^but by doing that, with the gap between the speaker and the door like that, it will SEVERELY affect the sound quality. Try making a solid ring spacer and listen to the difference, you will notice it.
I just made my spacers out of MDF and trimmed it a little here and there with the dremel until it fit like a glove. Once I had those in, on the back side of the door panel youll see some extra plastic around the speaker grille, just trim that up a bit to allow for the speaker excursion. I mounted my MB Quart components this way and I love the way they sound.
But yes...read the sticky, it has a lot of other imfo you might need as well.

Re: '03 Front Door Speakers
I didn't notice any difference, I used to have a 1" mdf ring, but it was a little too big, and the speaker used to hit the grille on the door panel, so i just used these, it sounds about the same.
