New Member, Question about Fogs, and IPOD Install

2002 Civic LX Sedan

Ok so I will get my hi's and thanks in advances out of the way now. I have been reading the boards for a while so I know alot of you guys have the answers I am usually looking for.

I was on procivic.com looking at the fog lights and it says no bumper modification needed. When I went outside and tried to pry out that insert it seemed more or less a part of the bumper, unless its just really tight. Anybody install any of their OEM fogs?

Also I am not sure where I read the write up on installing the ipod wires today. Wherever it was it inspired me to head to best buy and pick up the Ai-Net wire for my Alpine head unit. The write up had this guy peeling apart the center console apart just to get the accessory tray out to get to the two screws that hold the HVAC unit in.

I was able to get everything out without removing the center console pieces. I just pulled out the fastener under the drivers side area where the side trim to the console meets the dash. I pryed it out enough so I could get my fingers under the accessory pieces ( cig lighter thingy...got it?) and pulled up. After you hear a snap then you do it on the other side (you dont have to remove the other sides fastener as you pretty much have it at this point). After you pull it up and out then you just remove as normal. I routed my wire down and tucked under the driver side center console trim and brought it up by that tray in front of the e brake. Considering the Ipod just says alpine when connected, I see no need for a mount.

I am assuming most of you people know this already, but this one is for the lurkers and the people too scared to ask. I did it, without a book or anything, 5 minutes.

I will probably be doing more learning than teaching here as I am new to the whole import scene but I figured I would contribute something.

Re: New Member, Question about Fogs, and IPOD Install

Not to come down on you or anything, after all.. you're a noob. However, most of us here have taken our car apart so many times that we know all the short cuts, what makes things easier, etc. I'm pretty sure I can have that out in under five minutes while still removing the center console. Well, that's irrelevant to the post but anyway, welcome to the forums. People are generally helpful and someone will ask any question you may have..
Whether they answer themselves or tell you to do a search.. haha.

Re: New Member, Question about Fogs, and IPOD Install

you have the exact car i do and i can tell you from experience, that "no mod needed" is pure BS. that insert you were trying to pry out has to be cut out and you'll have to cut another inch or two towards the center of the car. i know i posted some directions for our cars somewhere. if you do an advance search, put my name in the username field and search fog, you'll find it eventually. it's in .pdf format. you'll find my HID fog thread too.

you get over it. trimming the insert is easy. that's where i put my HID's. the rest of it can be a little nerve racking.

Re: New Member, Question about Fogs, and IPOD Install

I tried searching.. although, I'm not even 100% sure if it was on this forum or not. Maybe it was just something I found through random searching... however, I read an entire article about someone who put a bunch of different types of sound damping materials through different long term tests and I do remember that Dynamat Xtreme held up the best through all the different temperature tests... But then again, for the price of Dynamat, you could just pull the old stuff off and put new stuff such as Fatmat on...

Re: New Member, Question about Fogs, and IPOD Install

I have my entire car done with Dynamat Xtreme. I myself, started with the doors, then trunk, rear sides, floor boards, firewall, and finally the roof.

I think the most beneficial as far as outside noise is concerned was the roof. When it rains, it's not loud in the car at ALL.. no more of that annoying "ting ting ting" sound when it's raining. haha

If it's applied correctly, I'm sure it will take you longer than a day to get it all done.. Well, depending if you've done this before.. After taking into account the time of disassembly, preparing the surfaces, cutting, applying, heating, rolling, then having to cut out all those little holes so you can put your car back together.. expect it take you at least two days. Unless this is something you've done lots of times and you know exactly how the car comes apart?
