hi guys i need a new deck pretty bad and im debating between getting either a regular cd player or an in dash screen. Im either going to get the pioneer deh-p7800mp deck or the jensen vm9311ts. i know that its a jensen and i know its cheaply made i just want something to watch movies and hook my x box up too without putting down a lot of bank. so which way would you guys go? the pioneer or the jensen? thanks for your input

Well, I have the 9800bt pioneer which is similar to the 7800. I've also owned an indash DVD before as well. It really depends what you are going for. Are you really going to be playing xbox or watching DVD's in your car. Plus, you need to keep your car on while playing xbox or watching a DVD otherwise you'll drain your battery. Plus you'll also need a bypass for the DVD player, to make it play while driving.

It is cool to have an indash DVD player, trust me, I know from first hand experience. Its really all show though. Functionality wise, I think your better off with the 7800. 7800 will blow the jensen out of the water in terms of SQ, functionality, and build quality.

I do have something against Jensen and, cheap brands, but my opinion in this post is purely based on mp3 deck vs. DVD deck. It wouldn't matter what brands you were comparing. If you were comparing a pioneer DVD deck/ Alpine DVD deck vs. 7800. I'd still choose the 7800.

Now if you are buying a navigation/DVD deck, that's a whole different ball game.

no i wont need a bypass ill just do the grounding trick...... i usually watch movies when i drive mostly for company and background noise. yeah its a lot of show but i like the fact that i can burn mp3 dvds and they will play them. The pioneer does have a lot of features though and it sounds pretty good my bro has the same one. so im in a bind i like the functions/sound quality of the pioneer but i love the in dash option too

having dvd player is great i have one. good for traffic and if you have kids in the car or friends so it gives them something to watch also. but becareful i dont know where you live but in cali its illegal to have a movie or game playing while you drive ( IF U CAN SEE IT) just to let u know

I just bought the 9511ts should be here tomorrow, I will install and take pics if you wanna see how its gonna look. I have had jensen in the past and they are pretty rock solid, don't let the price fool you.

No bypass needed

What i do is, i take the E-brake wire (usually a lime green colour) and you tap it to your cigarette lighter ground, and whenver a cop drives by or something you just push in the lighter and it releases the ground and it brings up the on screen warning saying video viewing while driving is prohibited or whatever.

in terms of what you should get, ithink you should save for a Good indash that has a reputable name.

Stick with the Pioneer. Jensen is pure crap, and youre going to regret it. Trust me, dont go with the in-dash. I had one in mine and its distracting as hell. You dont need to be getting in a car accident because you were watching a movie while driving. The pioneer will sound better then the Jensen, last longer than the Jensen, and looks better than the Jensen. Not to mention the EQ on the 7800 is badass. Stick with the Pioneer. Dont get cheap when youre looking for quality.

^I was gonna say, most people I know that do it just put a toggle switch in, which is still ghetto. Just dont drive and watch movies and youll be fine.

That's what I mean by bypass. I know this grounding trick only works on some DVD players, and it doesn't work on all. So all I was saying is you need to bypass the parking brake wire.

If you really want the indash DVD, I say go for it. Just remember, you can't drive and play xbox or watch a movie at the same time. Like I said before, you can play xbox while your car is parked, but if you don't keep your car on, your battery will drain. I know you said you want to entertain the passengers in your car, but won't you envy the passengers, cause they get to xbox while you drive. I dunno about you, but you must be a nice person to entertain other people except yourself. Plus its illegal to drive with it up, like another person said. I almost got pulled over for it once. Cop was tailgating me, but my windows were all fogged up, and I had the screen up, but I didn't know it was a cop. Good thing I put the screen back down because I figured it was a cop. The cop pulls beside me, and looks for like 5 seconds, and drives off.

I put a toggle switch when I had my DVD deck, and I did it because the grounding technique did not work with my DVD player.

went with the jensen in dash havent installed it yet, ill let you know when i do. if i dont like it im going to take it back and get the pioneer instead.
