Ok, let's see here. The battery wire is the yellow one. You need that to keep your memory settings, and to keep your clock (on your deck). The red wire is your constant 12v wire. It turns on your deck when you have the ignition on.
You need both wires to have a properly working deck. Nothing is wrong with your car, there are no fuses blown. You have to have those wires hooked up to keep your deck working properly. Those 2 wires provide power to your deck.
I don't understand why you don't want to hook up these 2 wires. Every deck I' ve ever installed required these 2 wires. If you don't hook up these wires, you won't have any power at all.
Anyways, I don't understand your problem.

Its probably your battery wire (on the cars harness) that doesn't work properly. You need to find another wire to hook it up to.
Its the battery wire, because that keeps your memory settings on your deck, including your clock.
How did you check the fuses to see if they were blown?
Hook the yellow and red together.
Can the radio be turned on immediately or do you have to put in the key and turn the car on for the radio to fire up?
