sirius radio

if it's a plug and play unit (depending on size) mount it to the spot to the left of the cigarette lighter. run the plug in cables behind it using the spare switch cover as a hole. then just run the anttena cable under the glove box, down to the kick panel and then tuck all the way along the passenger side trim pieces until you can get the cabling into the trunk area. from here you can use the magnet antenna to stick it to the valet key lock on the rear deck or continue outside the trunk lid where you would then use a trim pri bar wraped in a cloth to pull back the rubber around the rear window. continue tucking the cable along there and then mount the antenna on the roof.

I routed...

the way they tell you to mount the antenna on the outside of ther car looks hella gay. i have an oh 5 ex coupe and what I did was route the antenna wire under the carpet to the rear windshield where the ant is (good reception)
I have 2 areas whre i put velcro strip and it looks good...
but now i'm upgrading to the stiletto and it will look even cleaner.
I mostly listen to Howard Stern...I havn't upgraded to HD quality yet...so music sounds like radio poopyness

the headunit needs to be turned up quite a bit when using the unit...must be the FM transmitter

would a SIRIUS FM Direct Adapter help with the audio output?

^ Which one did you get? If it is one of the P & P ones from Directed then yes, you should get the FM direct piece. It will make a dramatic change in the way the FM modulator works. It is basically a relay that plugs into your cars antenna that switches the FM mod on and off. Also you can go into the Menu Settings and change the Audio Output level...

P.S.. those friggin wheels are HUGE!

i got the Starmate 4...the audio output level on the unit is 100%

if i bought this, would it eliminate the extreme volume from the radio when the unit is turned off?

also, would i still need to use the external magnetic antenna?

Damn the site is all jacked up!!

Anyway to answer your questions...The FM Direct Adapter would eliminate all noise and interference from the FM Frequency that you are using for Sirius. As far as the "extreme volume" you speak of...the distortion will be eliminated so you won't have to turn the volume up as loud as before.

Yes you still need to mount the external magnetic antenna. On the trunk, outside in the middle would be the best spot without looking gay.

As far as mounting the Starmate, one of the members on here did a sweet install with his Starmate using the pocket underneath the aftermarket headunit. But since you have an '01, you could put it right next to the power outlet where the fog switch should be. It would look sweet right there. Just use the bracket that it comes with and attance soem screws to the console piece so that it will never fall off..

lemme see if I can find that other guy's thread...

AHHH SWEET here it is...

When I had an old school Sirius tuner I mounted the antenna on the rear deck and it got perfect reception. Only sometimes would it cut out. I put it there so it wasn't obvious that I had satellite, but I knew I had it. But then again that was an older unit so they might have changed the way the new ones work, and putting the antenna on the inside might not work.

May be a little to late for you, but you could do something like this to mount it if you dont like the current location. (image is hyperlinked to thread)
