If you don't get it solved from here, try calling Crutchfield. Those guys are really good and friendly. If you don't want to buy from them, you can just take their ideas or suggestions and buy somewhere else - http://www.crutchfield.com

ooooooooook
so lets start from the beginning.
in order to have proper low frequency extension in our cars, without the use of a subwoofer, a few things are required:
1 - deaden the crap out of the doors
2 - a speaker with proper low frequency extension must be used
3 - proper power must be provided
First of all, knock on the doors of a civic, inside and out, then go knock on the doors of any european car. first thing you'll notice is that ours sounds like a metal trash can, while most european sedans will sound a lot more solid, a more thud-like sound. this is because these cars are deadened properly and the metal used is a lot thicker.
also
these doors are usually sealed up pretty damn well, whereas ours have big gaps in them
so
to remedy this, we have sound deadener. now you dont have to go buy dynamat extreme and waste your hard earned dollars, try www.raamaudio.com
they sell stuff just as good for a fraction of the cost.
one roll is PLENTY to do both doors and the rear deck.
this will create the proper enclosure for the speakers, and the proper solid mounting location
this alone will improve the midbass and bass output from any set of speakers.
type r's work pretty well for the price
there are a few others out there that would probably do you well also

hey, definitely i would go with components, i actually deadened my doors a lot and added som 6 1/2" mids (they needed MDF rings to clear the mounting depth in the door.) and some 1 inch tweets at the base of the A-pillar.. i bought some components from Elemental Designs.. they are a small company but they hand build all their speakers.. they have great prices, package deals, and they have cheap deadener too.. good luck.. let us know what the end product sounds like..

elemental knows NOTHING about hand building their own speakers
pretty good speakers for the price, but they dont touch them. cdt builds all their speakers, tangband builds their subs, and i cant rememeber who, but another company builds their amps
Dynomat your entire car and your stock speakers will improve almost 100%, but most of those stock "bassy systems" are in nicer cars that already have sound deading material, and they usually have like 6 to 8 speaker systems, oh and i dont listen to much rap and i have a killer system ( thats why they make 8's)

currently i have infinity kappa 3-ways speakers amped w/ 60rms going into each.
and i cant seem to tune the amp to produce the sound i want.
im gonna try a different amp w/ more power (lookin at the alpine 75rms/each)

This is what I was going to suggest would be the best route. You should have no problem getting sound deadener, an amp, and an 8-inch sub for under a grand that you would be happy with. Actually, for enough sound deadener for all the important areas of your car, an amp, an 8-inch sub, and for installation of the audio components (wiring, amp, sub) you should be able to stay around 500 bucks. Now you will need to get a box for the sub and as far as that goes the could range from $50-$500 bucks depending on what you want.

That company that hand builds their amps would be Zapco. But on topic, from my experience I would say that for a good price the Polk MOMO series component speakers were a great set. They sound really crisp and have the bass that you are looking for if installed right.
