What should I do with my flipout monitor?
So I put a computer in my car with a 7 inch screen in the dash. It's not a flipout, just a screen where the stereo and pocket used to be so it's a double DIN screen. I also have a 7 inch flipout I took out of there that I'm not using anymore. So I was wondering what I should do with it.....any ideas? Somewhere in the trunk for shows? Or should I put the flipout back in the dash and move the computer screen down into a custom moulded area by the cupholders? Anyone got pictures of similar projects? I think that'd be pimpness.
since you dont NEED it, id say it leaves you free to experiment with advanced fabrication techniques, such as case modification for OEM style integration. making it look as stock as possible, in other words.
Something like removing a flipdown cd pocket door and fabricating the case using that as a cover, so when the screen pops out its funtional, but when retracted it looks stock (and I mean STOCK!). something like that.
when you were done with it, you could tack on $50 to the price you sell it for, and reinstall your current screen for daily driving.

Not using the flush mount screen is not an option since the flip out is not VGA. The computer requires a VGA screen, so I have no choice but to use this one to control it. The flip out will be simply to preamp the signal before it hits the amps, and also to provide a place to play PS2 and to watch DVD since the computer doesn't have a CD drive.
So I'm just looking for places to mount the flush mount if I put the flip out in the dash. Or if I don't put it in the dash, where can I put it? Maybe on the roof and modify it to flip down instead?

my idea would only work positing that you dont plan on actually running the second screen.
if you really wanted to run it, then I think your best bet is to pull it fro mthe housing and fabricate it into the lower panel. glare sucks and its a distraction to look away from the road, but youd only be looking at the top for GPS anyways, never the bottom while driving.
Ive got no pics of that, but thats where the TV is in my car.

best ive got, and the pic sucks to see the screen. can you adjust gamma?

Well worse comes to worse I'll take it off your hands for a small fee... J/K... It's going to be a bit difficult to mount that somewhere without it looking out of place... Is it an all-in-one or screen only? If it's an all-in-one then I'd recommend putting it just under the rear deck in the trunk near the light. This opens up several oppertunities to run multiple video links as opposed to just running only one video link for your entire setup. (not sure how many screens you have).

haha thanks for the replies
I just have the 2 screens, and the flush mount has to be used to control the stereo like I said. The flip out is just sitting on my bedroom floor taking up space, I should sell it and get some wheels. But I'm just playing with the idea of using it for something. I was looking at the spot in front of the shifter for a mount point for the flush mount, but I just couldn't be without my cupholders. I use them every day. That would be awesome though, it'd be nice and low, without glare. With the flip out at the top of the dash. Damn, it makes me drool just thinking about it.

you can also lose the flip out portion and just install the housing flush, just like youve got now.
but itll still glare, right off the center console plastic. its a pain. and WORSE, youd have your "stereo" and "GPS" screen low, which is an eronomic and functional nightmare, as well as just pain unsafe! meanwhile, your DVD or videogame (useless) monitor would be up high, another unsafe distraction!
no, the best option is VGA high, RCA low.
however, theres plenty of room to sink it in there and still have 100% access to your cup holders. Even if your passengers have to live with glare. (I know youd never watch a movie while driving!)

Not really into taking apart my $1200 headunit after paying $70 for extra warranty!
I don't watch movies while driving. Music videos sometimes but usually just the GPS. I use that almost every trip. Wish I had 2 stock locations for them.

it would be slick if you could flip one upside down and have two flip outs, just install one upside down in the lower pocket
that doesnt really help you, but its neat to think about.
I think you are stuck, minus the glovebox. it could go in the glovebox, retracted the box would close. then you could open the glovebox and open the flipout, have it pop out for videogaming or movies in the parking lot.
if your screen swivels, thats a bonus.

dealership. its held by wedging it between the windshield and the dashboard.
