what do you think? - custom ported trunk box variant
what do you think? - custom ported trunk box variant
Just like everyone else, im completely infatuated with 2k1civic.com's setup. And now with 2k2civicballer, i see that this is job that i could do and not sell my ********* to afford... but what do you think of this variant?
The guys up at cartoys here make this ported box thats not a circular bandpass, but rather like a long rectangular vent, along the side of the box... The bandpass is still on the side that the sub is attached to, but just along the edge. How about if i made a port like this for the trunk bed? I could make it like 2k2civicballer's, where there's a enclosure underneath the floorboard, but have a long rectangular port cut on the floor along one side of the sub ... and where would be the best place to put this port? along the rear or closer to the seats? Or should i just go ahead and go for the circular ports? Or should i just abandon this idea all together? Im not an expert on porting (or making enclosures for that matter) but i have made my share of perfectly functional boxes.
One more thing... I like the light up part of 2k1civic.com's setup, but i would rather have it transparent so you can see the sub cone. Has anyone worked with thick transparent plexyglass? I dont know if it cracks easily or whatever, or if working with this stuff should prof. only...
I know its alot of questions, but comments, suggestions, support, discouragement, anything, etc would be greatly appreciated... except flaming that is... Thanks!

thats a vented box. sometimes reffered to as a waveform.
it will have more bass than a sealed box but it must be tuned as well as a ported box
ive never worked with plexi, but you can make some really neat designs with it. ive herd that you need very thick plexi for a box. aswell it can get very expensive

The only problem with square ports are that they take up more room than a regular round port. You lose the air space in the port PLUS the wood, so you have to make the box slightly bigger. As far as thick plexi goes, it doesn't crack real easy (just scratches easy), and is real durable, the only thing you have to watch is mounting it. Make sure the screw holes are big enough or you will break the screws off in the plexi, real easy to do. The only real disadvantage is that thick plexi is pricey, a piece of 3/4" 16"x32" is around $100. Your other option is to use clear plexi ports (super expensive) and have them light up, I have done that before. One more thing, the best place to buy your stuff is Select Products (www.selectproducts.com). They are pricey but there stuff is awesome.
