EX sedan replace rear stock 6.5s
EX sedan replace stock 6.5s
Hi all! I am new here..have been reading the great forum for a few weeks, as I make myself familiar with this great 2001 EX sedan 5 spd. I have added some Panasonic tweeters to the front doors (where the coupes have them) and now want to change the rear deck 6.5s. I get conflicting reports of which brands fit...currently looking at Pioneer 6.5s (model 1647?) at Best Buy and Circuit City.Looking for a little more bass...I am not looking for a sub, amp, or to spend mega bucks, just to improve slightly on the poor stock speakers. Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated. This is absolutly a great place for help with our great little cars. (No reference to older Mazdas intended!) Thanks to all.. for all you do for each other..and this great service you provide. Sorry for the long post, and please excuse me if I have erred in any way, as this is my first post.
all 6.5s will fit the reear, the only question is the hole for the screws, but dont worry put ur 6.5s on the rear & get wide spacers for the screw & that will do the problem of holding ur speakers on the rear, dig it?

The Sedans don't have the spring the problem in the rear.. If you just want some good Midbass improvement get Phoenix gold XS Components..just use the woofer.. don't use the tweeters..
But Seriously if you wanted better bass performace you should just get better components up front..
Cheers

Thanks everyone! I guess the reason I am concerned about fit is Crutchfield says the "tweeters are too tall" on the Pioneer 1647. I really just want to spend under $100 and increase the bass a little. I understand that the 6.5s limit the bass, and 6x9s would be a big help, but I don't see anyway to easily add them without modifications, and I want to leave the car as "intact" (not cut up) as possible. I have passed my MOD age some time ago. LOL (Just a hint..the last car I really modified was a 70 Camaro! and it was only a few years old at the time) I prefer not to use subs, or change the stock in dash unit.
So...Has anyone changed the rear 6.5s, kept the stock HU and had an increase in bass ? I appreciate all comments.

Hey JeffBCivic ...I'm a new\old guy like you.lol I'm looking to upgrade the factory speakers all around, basic remove and replace. Any suggetions greatly appreciated.(2K1 LX Sedan)
you are not going to notice a huge difference by just using the stock head unit. that thing is so underpowered, its not even funny. the first speakers you want to replace are the front ones. I would get a nice component set up there. the back speakers should be used as a rear fill only. you want most of your sound coming from the front. if I were you, this is what I would do:
•get a new headunit (you won't regret it)
•replace the front speakers (coaxial or component set)
•replace rear speakers (coaxial)
•find a nice little 4 channel amp to power those puppies because the HU can only do so much (30watts x 4 channels is plenty)

•replace the front speakers (coaxial or component set)
•replace rear speakers (coaxial)

I've searched around to find the sizes of speakers that will fit and I'm a bit confused...6x9..... 6.5....front?... rear? I'm with you on the HU. I picked up a Pioneer 7200 (dolphin model) 4x45 watt, should be alright if I only want to hear it inside the car.
All..I bought the pioneer 1647s, and am attempting it myself with the help of the DIY from this board. Am stumped at removing the rear seat-back two side cushions...the ones that don't fold down. I have removed the 10mm bolt, seen and loosened the white plastic clip fron the trunk side, but it still seems to be hard to remove...don't want to braek anything....although i have seen the comments to "pull hard"...still not wanting to break anything.. HELP????
dont pull hard..........ul break it!!!!............look at the back side there is a white clip thing u can access inside the trunk by removing the carpet out of the way(carpet on the far upperc ceiling of the trunk).............pull the sides upward while pushing the white clip on the trunk.........that thing also makes the hell out of me
