Factory Alarm Problem

Sorry this isn't for a civic, it's for my aunts 04 or 05 Forester. She has the factory alarm on it which when she arms/disarms the alarm it beeps, flashes the parking lights, and locks/unlocks the door. Now it only locks/unlocks, and flashes the parking lights. I also had her hit the panic and nothing happened. Then I had her set the alarm, and i used the key to unlock it and open the door to set the alarm off and nothing happened. No flashing lights or siren. I am stumped. A first I thought maybe the siren went dead on it, but after "breaking in" while armed and nothing happened, I'm wondering if its something more serious. The warranty is no longer good also.
Again sorry its not a civic question but I figured if anyone can answer this it's someone on here. Thanks!

im not exactly sure how a factory Subaru alarms are set up, but the system is probably in "valet mode". Valet mode turns on when you press the buttons on the remote with a door still open. basically the mode shuts off the alarm until you reactivate it, but it lets you use the remote doorlocks still like you said.

with most aftermarket systems, to enter/exit valet mode -

1) open the driver door
2) press the Primary button (the one that sets the alarm)
3) press the Secondary button (the other function button)
4) press the Primary again (the one that sets the alarm)

are you sure its not just keyless entry? most cars dont come with an actual alarm system with door sensors and triggers.

She said the alarm went off my accident before when she opened the door. So I'm assuming it does.

Her fob only has lock and unlock buttons. Would primary be lock and secondary be unlock?

most subaru's with remotes have alarms, it's one of those 'they either have one or they dont' type deals. youll rarely see a subie with JUST a keyless entry system.

try this site: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/keyles...preza-forester

kinda confusing, so i picked out the good parts

2005 FORESTER

arm the system by using the power lock button on the driver or passenger door as you get out of the car and then closing the door behind you.
if that doesnt work try to arm the valet mode. re-arming usualy reverse the valet mode and turns the alarm back on.
VALET mode: To set valet mode or just to disable the security alarm system: 1. unlock all doors 2. physically open the driver's door 3. hold the UNLOCK button on remote for 2+ seconds. The red 'security' light will then flash 2 times a second until the car is turned on

2001-2004 FORESTER

Arming the alarm: to make an alarm in valet model arm-able, unlock all the doors and hold the small button down on the remote until the light stops flashing. Now when you lock the doors the alarm will be set and the light will flash on and off, on and off.
