subwoofer output?

probably a newbie question but, anyway, i have been hearing a lot about headunits with subwoofer outputs. how does that work exactly? as in how would a multiple amp setup work off of that head unit. i am very interested in this. what are some good brands that have this option?

really the sub out is set just for your subs . and most Head units will allow you to control the bass of your subs seperate off the hu. alpine kenwood and pioneer are my favs.

Precisely..

Sub Outputs have seperate volume controlls onthe hu (Usually electronic/no *****) that allow you to controll the volume of the sub in relation to the rest of your system.

Its always a good idea to misplace that manual for future reference Sorry, I don't know about your question though. Its usually something like holding down one button and using the 1 and 4 to change hours and mins. Not completely sure, although it usually is a combination of buttons.

(I think I've been asking you too many questions, Mohawk)... Regarding this subwoofer control. With my Alpine CDA-7863 HU, I've been never happy with this subwoofer control feature. As I understand it, talking to an Alpine technician over the phone, the HU supposed to control the output of the line-out (via RCA's) at 1 dB increments. So that at setting of "0", there's a -15 dB from regular output... while at "15", it should be back at regular output level. The difference between 0 and 15 is hardly noticable. Only when heavy heavy bass is kickin in, but still not enough for my ears. I had the guys (Car Tunes) re-check that the RCA from the sub are infact connected to the sub-out from the HU. It was. And the weird thing is, when I go to the menu, and take off the sub woofer, the system as a whole is much louder. Would I then have a defective HU? People tell me that the human ear can only detect differences in sound every 3 dB's, therefore there should be some 5 different steps with my Alpine head unit.

Cheers,
