What brand of speakers would you recommend?
Hi,
My g/f has 2001 EX Coupe and she blew her speakers (women
). So I want to hook up a decent stereo system for her, I got an 400W amp (50W RMS per channel) that I'd like to use. I want to get some decent speakers with at least 100W RMS in case i'll get better amp in the future. I looked around at Audiobahn on ebay, they seem alright. I have blaupunkt in my car, they sound great but they don't make them powerful enough. Can you recommend any good brands/models for front and rear from your experience? Thanks.

I like Infinity.
Don't worry about the RMS wattage so much. With a cheap amp, cranking it up causes distortion that even a 100W set of speakers won't handle. They will likely be worse on a little amp since they won't get the power they need. Using an amp at all though will provide much cleaner power at high volumes than the OEM crap.
What you should look at more is the speakers sensitivity, as this is a measure of the volume you will get from the power (watts) you supply. More or less, this results in louder volume with less power (so hopefully less prone to being blown since she won't turn it up so much).
Hope that helped. I'm negative on the reputation these days.

Infinity is a great budget speaker that can be made to sound like more expensive models. I have the base reference amped and installed well and they sound great. make sure you know how to install, you cant just slap it in and expect good sound.
Last time I had this much fun some furniture got broken!

I would only buy speakers from Alpine, Boston, Infinity, JL, Eclipse, Crossfire, etc... just cause they are tried and true.

Asking a forum for what brand of speakers usually will net you a lot of responses that will say something to the effect of "I have this brand and they sound good, you should get them." In all honesty, there was not enough information supplied to really give you an acurate answer. Sure, I can sit here and name brand after brand that I've had success with either in my personal installs or installs I've done for people. And you'd get a lot of brands that have performed well for me, and others. But the true question is, would they fit the application you're wanting? It's hard to give a recommendation without knowing the answers to a few questions.
The first question, at the top of the list, is what's the budget for the speakers? What's the budget for install material, etc? Need to have a budget to know how much money we're talking to play with here. Sure, I could give you a set that'd sound phenominal in every application, but do you really want to spend $1500 on a set of components? Doubt it.
The next question is what is the pirmary function of these speakers going to be? Meaning are they going to be filler between the subs and highs? Or do you need a component system for both midbass and high frequencies? Will these need to perform full range, or are you going to have a sub?
The next question is what is the primary type of music that will be listened to on these speakers? What all types will they need to cover occasionally? Reggeaton might sound like crap on one set and phenominal on another. Speakers perform at different levels, and have different functions, and different types of music that they're best suited for.
And the last question is what is your music style preference? Are you and SPL guy(or in this case chick as it's your gf) that wants it loud or do you prefer the soothing sounds of a great SQ system? Does clarity take prescedence or does loudness?
Do you plan on installnig sound deadener when you install these? If you haven't considered this yet, I highly recommend it, as it's only going to make the speakers perform, and sound better. For one it will deaden the panel and you won't have sonic resonance from the panel and the metal in the door. It also helps seal off the backwave from the front. There are several other functions of sound deadener, but these are two of the primary audio related ones.

keep in mind speakers are not created equal brand for brand.
compare the top of the line JL speaker with the bottom of the line focal speaker, or vice versa. I'd say most folks would say they are great brands, but if you buy their bottom lines, you are asking for poor sound.
its best to compare models.
do you think toyota is good? if you said yes, you may have been thinking of the mr2spyder, while the guy who said no is thinking about a 1987 carolla......
