new HU, power but no sound

not brand new but my cousin gave me his 02 alipne unit that he pulled from his trans am in working condition. it has 6 plugs for rca sound and it has regular harness. i bought the regular harness and soldered the wires in myself rather than buying the smart harness thing and having it all predone for me. the head unit works fine the power comes on changes radio stations opens for a cd and will start to play the cd but no sound comes out. now i find it hard to beleive that i soldered and spliced everything right ecxept every single speaker wire. anyone know what the problem is its an alpine cda 7894.
thnx

maybe the powerIC internal amp is shut off if your friend was using amps. also try pushing the lil reset button if it has one.
