Question Best overall 12" sub and amp combo

Well i'm looking to add a sub to my car and i was thinking of just going with 1 12" sub. So i was wondering what would be the best bang for my buck. I'm looking to spend i'd say... $500 or so max on an amp, the subwoofer, and then also the 4g wire i'll need to run from the battery to the trunk. I plan on hooking this all up with an eclipse cd3000 deck that i will also be buying. I think i'll be buying the sub/amp awhile after i get the deck though, but i still want to do my research and find what equipment i want to buy. Thanks for all the help.

I'd recommend a Alpine R-type 12" off ebay. You'd probably be okay with an amp with as little power as 300W RMS, and you could put it into a vented / slotted box and I think that would be a good route!!! My 10" is in a sealed box and I love how it sounds, I went from 4 12" R-types to this now! It's loud, but not obnoxiously loud!

Alpine MRDM-501 think it is. I have the MRDM-301...it's a mono amp with 300W RMS...but i think the 501 would be better for a 12". I have my Kicker 06zx700.5 and I'm very happy now.

Is that amp a new one? I dont' seem to have much luck in finding any info on it from places in the US. I get the specs on it, but thats about it.
What you guys think about the alpine MRD-M605 or MRP-M650?

I would favor the MRD-M605 over the MRP. I'm not much into Alpine amps any longer, but I believe the "D" is better than the "P" type.

Theres more to it than just the number of watts, build construction and efficiency play into part too. Alpine mono amps are fairly efficient.

All though that is true, they are still expensive though. I'm looking for an amp that costs considerably less then $400, maybe around $200 or so.

I guess i didn't write what i wanted correctly. I want a good amp, but if i'm going to be spending $300+ i want something that will push more then just 400-500 watts.

Like I said, a GOOD clean amp for $300 plus doesnt have to have 10zillion watts. It will be efficient and clean which is what matters. Look for a used Zapco. Youre kind of wasting our time too, just look thru the audio section. there are a million opinions on amps, subs, etc.

go with kicker man. you cant beat kicker. in my opinion kicker is by the leader in the car audio business. i'd rather have a 12 inch kicker l7 then a jl audio w7. there way better bang for the buck and they sound awesome. volfenhag has good amps but if you want good reliable power i'd still stick with kicker there twin brother the diamond amp. the black ones. come in a yellowish box. dont be fooled by ebay's knockoff diamond audio amps.

Yeah if you just want over kill bass!!! Ide rathere have a W6 or even 2 W3v2's just cause im not going to use that much bass, unless i go to shows and thats once and a blue moon. sooo. For him, he wants a little thump i say go type R, they are cheep, do a decent job, for aobut a buck fifty and then pick up a 400w amp nothing fancy, probably a Nice JBL *i got my 600w for 289* pushed 2 10 inch type r's no problem. nice and clean. (that was till it got jacked)

Damn $500, I mean this sincerely, you're probably not gonna get much bang for your bucks. I don't know, I guess it's just that when I do audio I have to get the good **** and that's JL audio for bass and mb quart for highs homie.

Well $500 is a ballpark figure, if i need to go over that to get a good sounding setup then i'll do it. I mean hell, when i was looking for a car i was wanting to spend around 10k. I first day i went out to go test drive all the cars i had been looking at and researching i ended up spending 14k, so i guess if it's going to cost me more to get a good setup i'll have to deal with it.
