2 cu ft tuned to 32hz
Ok. i'll make this simple hopefully somebody will do the same for me haha
i need to make a box for a 12" Ascendant Audio Atlas that is has 2 cuft and is tuned to 32hz. what does that mean and what do I do?
at me because I suck.

go down on this website to the Volume Calculator - Rectangular/Square Enclosures and type in ur dimentions but add .75 for 3/4 inch thickness of the mdf and u will get the cubic foot the also use the port calculator to get ur 32hz.
woops forgot to add the site http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

ok this is probably a really dumb question.
im looking at that site (thanks by the way) and its talking about port diameter. *get ready for dumbest question of the year lol* In order to tune the box to 32hz it has to be ported? i know nothing about this stuff so dont talk ****! lol. anyways, i was under the impression sealed boxes give a tighter bass sound and thats what i want, i don't care for boomy bass so much, so thats why i always go with sealed boxes...but Ascendant Audio told me to get a 2cu ft box tuned to 32hz. sooooooooooo, after all that, im supposed to cut a port to tune it?

Okay. You need to make a box with a hole or a slot in it called a port. The length, size and shape of the slot or hole all determine the dimensions you will need to tune it to a specific frequency. This is important because your sub will play louder at that frequency than it would in a different type of enclosure. If the mfr of the sub says tune the port to 32hz then you use the link above for the port calculator. You put in the desired hz you want the port and you put in the number and/or shape of the port. The calculator will give you the exact dimensions you need to build the port. Now for the box. Basically build a box that has 2cu ft of air inside including the cu. ft. of the port. Don't forget that if you use a slot port you have to account for the thickness of the wood (3/4") inside the box. Add that dimension to your box and you'll be in the ballpark.
BTW if you don't like your bass boomy and you don't know much about this process just make a sealed box with the recommended cu. ft.

ok...Rufus said take into account the displacement of the driver and port....and you said make the box 2cu ft including the cu ft. of the port...how do i account for that?...im so confused lol
so for example...i was messing around with numbers and i put in 18x18x14.1 at it gave me 2cu ft...so...thats right, right? but then when i take into account the driver and port...uh..whats that mean?
i suck
well even if i make it sealed i'll still have to account for displacement of the driver...and i still dont know how to do that haha

dood didn't you take math classes that told you how to measure volume? LxWxH
The paperwork from the MFR will tell you driver displacement.
