New subwoofer(s) time...

After almost three years with the Diamond Audio TDX 12" (now known as the D9), I think I am going for a change. I have changed out everything else in my system at least once, except the TDX. Its not a bad sub, but I want to change it, and I have money burning a hole in my pocket

I'm going to get something from the shop I "work" at, so I have access to JL Audio, Diamond Audio, Memphis, Eclipse and possibly Focal through a distributor.

Looking to stay sealed, but want to get more than one woofer. I was thinking 2 12W6v2 or 2 13W6v2, or something different like 3 8W7's. My TDX is in a 1.5 cubic foot sealed enclosure, its a decent size box, I don't want the new enclosure taking up more than 2 cubes, I want some trunk space.

Any suggestions, recommendations, opinions?

If I had the money, I would try two 13 inch FOCAL 33K
I would say that's something different.
Everyone runs JLs. How many people do you see running Focal subs?
Also look into Eclipse Titanium series.
If that's too expensive, 2 12'' Eclipse Aluminum series should sound quite nice

I've heard the Focal's before (not sure if I heard the 33K or not) and I really liked them, they just didn't get loud. I don't like SPL all that much, that's why I am going for sealed, but when I want to "bump" it, I want to make sure my subs can deliver

Eclipse Titaniums was a choice, I'll have to check prices tomorrow.

I should also mention that I will be running the sub(s) off of a JL 1000/1, and no, I am not going to upgrade the amp, 1000 watts should be more than enough for me

focal 33 wx sir
8w7 disappointed me
if youre gonna w7 it, go 13
eclipse alums are nice
eclipse ti's though are monsters...
the new eclipse 8200 woofers look like they may have something to offer, some stuff on the site advertises a ruler flat bl curve
if you have access to hear them, id reccomend so, because on paper, they look real nice
memphis has absolutely nothing to offer you in the higher end sound quality subwoofer world....
any other brands you may be missing that you can get your hands on?

We got the Alluminum Eclipse's in at work, they sound real clean. The power handelings in the titaniums though are phenominally greater. im thinking about going with this sub, click here.

Nope, that's all I have access to.

Focal looks like a no go since I don't think I can get the pricing I though I can get, but I'm still working on it.
We don't stock the Eclipse woofers because no one buys them, I don't know why, they just don't. I would be going in blind on the Eclipse subs.
One of the other guys I work with has a single 12W7 that he just put in a sealed enclosure, sounds nice, and gets pretty loud off of a 500/1.
I'm still working out the box using manufacturers specs, trying to keep the box small so I can still have a functional trunk.
13W7 is nice, but I want more than one woofer and wouldn't have the power for more than one 13W7

I will have what I want ordered by tomorrow afternoon, and since its probably no surprise, the W7 is the one sticking in my head right now.

BTW, those Eclipse Titaniums, anyone ever heard them before? If so, in what? How many woofers? How much power?

Ah well, decision has been made, I'm getting a pair of 10W7's. Already built the box for it, should hopefully have the subs by Friday.

Will post pics when its done, going to add a little "flava" to the box, didn't want it just carpetted.

Getting the Focals was a no deal for me, unless I paid MAP to Retail for them, I don't pay MAP for my equipment anymore
And I guess I should have mentioned that I had a couple hundred dollar credit at my shop, and since we don't sell Focal, that credit would have been useless.

Now, what would make you think that I will be trading up to a single 13W7 anytime soon?

If I upgrade, its probably going to be for some Focal subs, I'm on the hunt to find a friend that works in at a Focal Authorized dealer, so your wait might not be too long WhiteRabbit

Atleast you've got the juice to run them (barely).

That should hammer pretty damn hard when you ask it to. I'm not sure that I would have done w7's unless SPL was my main goal, but heck.. you're ride, and I'm no expert. Let us know how it turns out.

w7s are good SQ subs actually. Not the best, but they sure sound nice. he got the 10w7, those subs are good for basically any type of music. No overhang either (not alot at least)

i would look into 1 good sub 2cf is hard to get the best performance of a speaker when they are sharing the area unless its an isobaric style inclouser than it will work. personally i would have stuck with the tdx befor spending on a w7 but since you got the credit at the shop go for it. ive always found the tdx to outpreform the w7 in all area's of sound but ohwell just my 2cents

This is a live and learn thing. I like to try out new equipment, its just surprising that I kept the TDX this long.
The box I built is sealed, roughly 40" long (fits between wheel wells), 15" height, and 10" depth on the top, 15" depth at the bottom. Each woofer is in its own chamber and has about 1.1 cf before displacement.
The SPL of one 12" TDX was good enough for me, so I know it will be more than enough from two 10W7's.
And if I don't like it, I still have the TDX I agree that the TDX is a great performer, but I can't exactly say it outperforms the W7, not yet anyways.
