Cheap Cerwin Vega

Are two cheap ($150 each) Cerwin Vega subs going to be better than the on MTX 8000 that I have now? Are they worth while?

Either two:
Cerwin Vega VEGA12D4 12" Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer
$149.95

or two:
Cerwin Vega VEGA124 12" Woofer
$109.95

And with the first, do I have to do anything different to hook up a dual voice coil sub? Do i need a 4 ch. amp to have two subs running?

Thanks!

nope. you could use a 1 channel, and wire the subs in serial or parallel (sp?). or you could use a 2 channel and run them in stereo 2 channel. or bridge it and wire them the same as the 1 channel. or you could use a 4 channel bridged down to 2 channels. but you definatly don't need a 4 channel, that would be impractical.

from what I have heard about them, I would stick with the MTX8000. I have never actually heard one myself, but they seem to be pretty popular. should be better than those Vegas.

Okay well what amp will you be running them with?.. How much power.. What kind of enclosure. Ported or sealed?..

I'd take the Vega's over MTX8000's any day..

Cheers

I have an MTX 8000. It sounds good with 500WRMS, but it's a weak sub. i broke my first one the day after i bought it. then 4 days later, i broke it again. now i'm returning it.

Nighthawk.. yes..get the IDMAX Dual 4 ohm.. Wire it in Paralell.. you then have a 2 ohm load.

I'm gonna say that they would be in sealed boxes, custom made. The amp i'm not sure about, probably a phenoix gold or RF, not sure yet though. But which of those two subs would be my safest bet, if either?

Any suggestions on a budget amp? I've seen a 600w RF for about 300, is that good?
