Aftermarket Speakers with Stock HU

Im planning on getting speakers for my 03 civic hx 2dr with my tax return money. I want to keep the stock Headunit for looks and because many of my friends have gotten there flashly aftermarket ones stolen. I was looking at the Infinity Kappa series but I searched and found that 2 Ohms Impedance is too much for the factory headunit. The Reference Series has 4 ohms so Im currently looking into those. Im looking for some sharp highs and soild lows.

Reference Series 6-1/2" two-way shallow-mount loudspeaker

Reference Series 6" x 9" three way loudspeaker

I've got a couple of questions.
  • Has anyone done this? Will the speakers easly fit into the stock harness.
  • Will I notice much of a difference in sound?
  • Will the stock HU be powerful enough to work with these speakers?
  • 6.5 front, 6x9 back, right?

Any help would be great! Yes, Ive searched, 7thgen and other sites. I even made a trip to Circuit City and did some homework.

1) I have done this. Yes they will fit in stock "harness"
2) The sound will be a whole lot clearer.
3) This is the on I dout! You dont post the RMS specs soooooo they might be real quiet! But your stock deck ONLY pushes 4 OHM so that will be your limit there.
4) yes that is correct

Talking

Stok deck will only PUSH 50 whatts. And that is equal to 25 whatts RMS. So the fronts will be LOUD. (or 50 whatts worth of sound) As for the rear you will only be using HALF the power for the rears! Hope this helps in your decision.

O' ya you could just get an amp for your rears and keep the stock deck

you can turn on the 6x9s with the stock deck... I did it for a second while installing but with 75 watt rms and it worked but I didn't really listen to see if it sounded good. The door speakers might fit because of the shallow mount part of them but be prepared to buy some spacers proabably 1 to 1.5 inches and maybe cut down some of the egg crate stuff in the speaker grill cover thats what i had to do with mine that were not shallow mount. good luck.

So blackcivic is saying that the Factory HU will not be powerful enough to work with the rears, on the other hand i have Juanotejano thinking it will. Does anyone have a thrid point of view?

Thanks much to both by the way

I was thinking about doing this, but instead of using the Reference series' speakers I was going to use Kappas. This might help though.

stock HU --> amp --> 6x9. that should enable the 6x9's to be used to their potential power

So I can get to keep the stock HU? (At least after I get tired of it? I wanna go as close to stock-looking as possible, thieves here suck)

stock HU's only push like 8 w RMS so you would either want an amp for the speakers or a new HU. You also need a mounting bracket for the front speakers so that they fit easier.

THE SPEAKERS WILL WORK WITH THE STOCK HU BUT THEY WONT SOUND ALL THAT GOOD BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING UNDERPOWERED SOOOOO MUCH.

You could get a better HU which will make the speakers sound better or you could keep the stock HU and just buy a 4 channel amp (I would get the amp) which would make the speakers sound way better than witha new HU.

PM me if you have Q's im very knowledegable about this kind of stuff
