Factory CD-Player Sub Output
For the last 3 weeks, I have been working on designs for a custom trunk sub enclosure and am finally ready to start buying, well, everything! After reviewing all the technical papers on the eqt I'm going to buy, I would like to know one thing: Does the factory Single CD-Player for 2001 Civic have its own subwoofer Line-Out ports? I'm looking to upgrade the HU later, but the subs are a priority, so I would rather leave the HU alone until its ready to get ripped out. I'm new to ICE, so any information would be greatly welcomed.
BTW, I'll hopefully start posting some pics of my toy and speaker project once I get started.
Thanks,
Goose

nope. but if you want, you can buy an amp with line level inputs. then you can still use your factory HU with subs. it just taps into the speaker lines. I actually have an amp for sale with line level inputs if your interested.
start with an HU. ok get one from pioneer. the premier series. anything 400 series and up. they all have high pass filters on them so they take the bass out of your mids and highs so you can turn them up and have it clean. then they have a seperate bass sub output that sends a much cleaner signal than line level to your bass amp. if you leave in the stock hu then the bass with still go to your regular speakers and the only way to turn up the bass just to the subs would be directly at the amp. but your hu would have the bass turned down so not to blow your regular spkrs. plus your stock spkrs will amaze you when u put them on the new deck with no distortion from bass.
well with the pioneer hu you just have to set the bass at like negative 2 and then turn your sub bass uo to like plus 3 or 4 and don't turn the volume past around 80% cause it will just send out distortion. know your limits with what you have and if you want more sound .... pay for more sound
i never tried it in mine but my neighbor has a four door and i added a 4 channel amp to hers. i ran all the spkrs on the front 2 and the sub on the rear 2. it sounds fine and she hasn't blown them yet. and it was an old premier 1022 so its a good bit of power. but i changed all my stuff out within 2 weeks so i never really tried it.

Thanks for the tips! I would rather wait to get a new HU than have to deal with any distortion. FYI, I will be running (3) 10" RF HE2 subs series/parallel off a mono RF bd1000.1. I want something that (while still having to replace the grounding cables, doesn't require a new alternator/battery. I still have some research to do on the speakers and amp, but the nice thing about the 10" RF's and the bd amps is that I can downsize the amp and speakers and still maintain the same dimensions on my design.
I was looking at the Sony Xplod CDX-M770 ES as an option for the HU. It has built in LPF/HPF and sub out. I've gone with Sony in the past (never for speakers though and never with mobile audio) and haven't been disappointed. The black face also gives me some added challenge in integrating a black plexi-glass plate to align with it on the mounting to give a degree of hiddeness (okay, so being hidden is purely aesthetic).
I've got plenty of time to take these details into consideration because, this weekend, I will just be starting to cut the peices to replace Honda's sturdy cardboard spare tire cover.
Advise on Sony HU's? Go ahead, burst my bubble, just step all over it!
Thanks, Goose

well just remember to use your rockford's remote bass for bass cause any time you turn up the bass on your stock deck you turn it up to all your spkrs. and you need a line level converter to get low level rca to the amp. and the input is always really low so it won't play as loud as with a clean new hu. as for sony decks .... nah go premier. the new 740 plays mp3's
another thing to note is that Active Black Panel HU's are more or less useless in our cars, why? because of the angle that the HU mounts at. also, the motorized face on them is also useless, again because it doesn't move far enough to compensate for the mounting angle. for that reason i bought a CDXCA750. no Active Black Panel. and I still can't see it in the day time. so yea, just expect the active black panel to be useless in day, you won't be able to see anything.
ive still got my factory HU and ive got an 8" bazooka el, and i have it connected to the line level thru the rear right speaker, hits great bass and was a breeze to install,...im not that big on bass, as in too much can be annoying, plus i listen to too much rock to have too much bass, i just like hearing that kick drum kick...haha
