Choosing Mids and highs
go with what you like and what fits your wallet. a 500 dollar speaker can sound totally different from the next, so dont even bother going by what costs the most or what can handle the most power. Heck, ive heard some 50 dollar speakers that can spank the 200 dollar models easy. listen to your selections beforehand if possible.
^^ Agreed. Just because they cost a ton doesnt mean they will sound good in your setup. You have to have good signal, and extremely clean power to the very high end stuff to make them sound as they should.

don't take ANYONE's word on which are best.
go to every shop you can find and listen to their sound board, find the ones YOU like best.
go to audio shows and listen to speakers, etc...
and remember, more important than speakers, is your install
you could buy the $8,000 rainbow reference component set and toss it in a shitty install, and it'll sound exactly that, shitty...

Ludlam, is it true that Seas Lotus uses basically the same driver found in the Reference series, just different cone color??
i have a set of focals and i love them, i also have been through a set o mb's pioneer's, jl's. they all sound pretty good. like mentioned above its all in your set up. if you match the speakers wattage range. i love to over power all my speakers. i would rather have too much power and turn the amp down then to max the amp out. right now i am running a eclipse 87121dvc 12" sub with a fosgate 700s, the amp has a birth sheet or 836w and the sub handles 300w rms. so i have the amp turned almost all the way down but get unbelieveable lows and clarity. same goes with my focals, i have a diamond 400.2 amp powering them with it turned all the way down. the focals handle 75w rms and are wayy over powered but sounds unreal with the set up i have. i am also running a 1farad cap to keep the voltage @ 14.4volts when the sub hits. this is ion a std cab s10 right now. i dont think ill install a sub in the vic. probably a set of focal utopia 3 way seperates. a friend has a set he wants to give me for $300. i cant pass that up.

^ as people have stated before, just go and listen to them thats the only way your gonna know if you like them or not. Hell some people may disagree what i have in my car, I have all Kicker in my car and love them, because of multiple things that help with the sound. of course i don't have the cheap line of kicker, which helps too. You get what you pay for. Kicker SS components run anywhere from $650-$900. If you buy a $75 set of components, you better believe they are gonna sound like $75 components.

not necessarily, there are some diy combinations of home speakers that are way cheaper than any of the most expensive sets of speakers, but yet they sound just as good if not better.
another good brand to check out is CDT, they make some pretty good stuff.

Ok we just said you get what you pay for though, you go out and buy cheap *** speakers they are gonna sound like ***. We're comparing car stereos to home theaters. Hell my friend has mix and match speakers in his and saved money and sound oh so sweet. We're talking about buying a set of components. You buy a $150 set compared to a $1000 set, there is gonna be a big difference. When you get up to like $500 for a set and $1000 then there is little things that are different, but still, 99% of the time, the more expensive the speaker, usually the better it perfoms.

Diamonds are awesome speakers. Diamonds after all, are forever. I remember I had a set of Nakamichi - 5 1/4, cleanest most natural reproduction speakers eva..the guy in the audio store fell in love with the tweets. Have to say, the rubber on the mid range had to be glued on though
. Diamond, Focal, Boston..good brands man.
. Diamond, Focal, Boston..good brands man. i would not put diamoond in the same category as focals or bostons. diamond a awesome mid quality company. focal and boston are top notch i would also throw kicker in there with boston and focal now too.

which kickers? SS65.2 ??
I don't think those speakers are anything to brag about, for that price anyways. Well, I am comparing them with Seas Lotus Reference now, so yeah...
