Amp with lower wattage than the sub
Amp with lower wattage than the sub
Hi, I have maybe very stupid question but you gotta start somewhere
Ok so i got a 1000 watt sub and and 600 watt amp
question is if I hook it up for now to the amp that is lower wattage
will it burn out? Can i keep amp for now at like 80% of its power?
Any suggestions except for spending more $$ for new amp?
Thanks in advance

*assuming the amp is set on the proper settings* no, the amp will not be or harm any damage by just hooking it up to a sub that can has more potential.
you can run that amp as hard as you want because you're only underpowering the sub with it. some subwoofers dont like being underpowered (IE: kicker solobarics) so they tend to not sound as expected. but that doesnt mean the sub still cant blow. remember that distortion causes speakers/subwoofers to blow, not overpowering. u can take an 400watt amp and hook it up to a 1000watt sub and still blow it if u had the bass boost and gains on max

It'll be fine either way, assuming that the amp is set correctly.

Devani what are you talking about? Obviously you haven't been into car audio long. And people, this topic has been covered many times. Use that search button and itll save threads being made and locked. How is RMS bogus? How isn't there such thing? How about you go to crutchfield or some sort of other source and type in RMS.... youll get the results of root man square. This means a continous wattage pumping out of an amp....you should follow the RMS guidelines when buying a sub and amp...

i was under the impression that they were inanimate objects
kidding... but seriously, all he will get is a loss in output. if there is indeed a change in sound at higher power it is because at higher excursion, most subwoofers with a standard single gap motor topology lose linearity and put out more distortion.
now you may say, but i dont like distortion, it sounds bad...
well, ever met some punk kid that think his sony's sound better than a JL w7?
i have
its a thing of taste.
