^x2 sounds like a voltage drop is causing the amp to pull more current which then in turns causes the voltage to dip down even further.

By the time mine hits 11.8 my HU shuts off and voltage jumps back to 13+ so I don't know the ACTUAL voltage it shuts off at. But anything below the high part of 11v is bad anyway. That means the battery is outputting a lot of current (since a battery is a real voltage source, not ideal, the voltage drops as more and more current is outputted [you may know this already]). So when you are dipping below 11.8, 11.7 the battery is really putting out more current than it should. That means you have way too much electrical crap running lol.

So anyway back on topic: my gauge in my car doesnt show instantaneous voltage and I am not magical so I have no way of telling exactly where it shuts off. All I know is under 12v its getting close to shutting off.

yea if thats happening, it means you are draining too much total voltage and the deck does not have enough to work properly. Its a safety thing because running a deck at low wattage will kill it. In other words, get a better alternator or turn down the bass

I wouldn't blame it on the car. try blaming it on the pos hu you have there. Sony = ghey.
BTW, my cd player did that too, fixed the problem by hooking it up directly to the battery. Just get a 12ga wire and do that.

well no all you are doing is connecting the yellow battery wire directly to the battery instead of to the harness. same with the black wire, attach to a ground instead of using the factory harness wire. It will work same as before. I need to do this but been lazy and I don't play music loud enough anyway.

It will hardly cost you anything. Just get a fuse, and a 12ga wire...what's the big deal. It won't turn off on you, I'll bet on it 50 cents...hehe

go into radio shack they'll tell you what fuse for whatever you're doing. or your deck should have a fuse on the + battery too so reuse the same one.
