alpine 9852 and new line

what do people think of the alpine 9852 and the new line it makes me want to go buy an ipod since all you need is the 30 cable for it, but i had a 9831 but thought about getting the 9847 the i saw the line? any pros cons from it , and how does this one compare to the 9831 or 9847?

The 9847 is a solid deck. Works great. Youll get some different features with the 9852, like a bigger fold down face, but youll only get 1 set of pre-outs. The 9847 has 3 sets (front, rear, sub). If you plan on expanding your system, the 9847 is the way to go. Granted the new iPod full-speed cable is nice, no ai-net stuff or extra boxes to connect, and it costs about $80 less, I would rather have the extra preouts than that feature.

those ipod capable headunits are overrated. a mp3 cd deck is fine =P they are slow, and the sound is not that different from a regular cd. unless you have an ipod already, i wouldnt get one.

alot of newer MP3 CD decks are ages faster than that ipod connector crap. and who are they fooling saying its supposed to be some hifi audio connector? last time i checked its nothing special coming out of the bottom of the ipod.

trust me, it sounds a hell of a lot better coming from the bottom than from the headphone jack. but i agree, Ai-Net is way too SLOW, this is why im still using headphone jack to rca cable. doesnt sound as clear, but at least i can go from A-Z in less than 20 minutes.

haha yea sometimes it even resets itself back to main screen if i try and browse by category. i have to press, wait a few secs, then very slowly rotate the ****. i thought their own connection would be faster. i dont mind too much cause its super fast playing a cd/mp3 disc anyway

thats why i wanted to get the 9847,but then crutchfield stopped carrying it so i guess i will have to go in and play with there new line, but i agree just having mp3 is enough for me, just now i will have to get it on ebay or somewhere else that still have the 9847, but im not too worried about expanind my system the most i would ever get is maybe the 9852 or 9856 new speakers and maybe an amp

I think the last good high end decks that alpine made were the 9833 and 9835...I havent liked any of their decks the last two years, with the exception of the new $1500 model with the color biolite display. But it has glide touch
