Under $500?
Either save up to at least $1000 or get a seperate monitor and dvd player. Take it from someone who has an in dash dvd player - if you get a cheap one you will hate it.
Dont waste your money on something that is $500 in the same market as a dozen $1000, $1500, or even $2000 models.

Hey, Im not saying Im a fan of Jensen, nor do I even like their products. They are junk. You get what you pay for. If you want to spend $500 or less go ahead, but dont come back to the forum asking why the picture sucks or why certain features will just decide to stop working. Save your money and get a quality product. There are giong to be a TON of A/V units right around the $1000 mark this year. All of pretty decent quality. Save.

Just remember "spoonJDMIX", you buy cheap, you get cheap. If your going to do it, do it right, or don't do it at all.
I used to have a Panasonic in-dash DVD and my friend used to have a crappy Jenson or Performance Tekniques
Jenson, Performance Tekniques, and a few other low level brands seem to sell the same unit with different branding.
Well comparing screen and picture quality playing the same DVD, I can tell you "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"
You can get lucky and find a used Panasonic for a little bit more than $500 on eBay.

As you can see the general theme from anyone with a DVD system in their car is that you better spend at least $900 on an in dash system if you want something that isnt a heap of crap.
i have a panasonic cq-vad7200U for sale, it still has 1 year extended warranty on it, and it works great. its the best picture quality ive seen, and on top of that, the monitor swivels left and right to obtain the best viewing angle.
pm me if youre interested, though its probably a bit more than what youre expecting to pay.

Make sure you get a model where you can bypass the DVD protection so you can play DVDs while in motion... most out of the box prohibit this by law, but some are easier to circumvent than others...

I always thought that instead of grounding it to the e-brake, you just grounded it out on the chasis..... could be wrong though. If your gonna do it though rig yourself a switch that does both. A friend of mine got pulled over and he checked the dvd player to see if it worked in gear.

With the clarion 745 and 755, along with many other dvd players, you COULD always ground the one wire that is supposed to go to the ebrake light with the ground built into the harness and that would allow you to watch movies while driving, but that is illegal

Alpines need a sequence from 2 sources (brake pedal and ebrake) to allow video to be displayed. A simple circuit I can build for $10, or a premade one for $50, would take care of that problem.
Some navi units, though, will not allow video to play while moving.

Depends on what version of the software you have. I had the old Alpine unit (NVE-N852A) and just upgraded to the NVE-N872A, and the new software is amazing. I live in a county where the UPS drivers and **** dont know the roads, but this new version of the software has them all. Anything 2004 or 2005 will be very good. It takes time for them to get all those maps together and ****.
They do. Ive used the stand-aloine GPS units (like magellen and street pilot, etc). The new version of the Alpine software kicks all of their asses, and it stores so much more information than the other GPS units can ever have
