Extreme Newbie obligitory dumb Question
I just replaced my back speakers with a pair of 6x9 Pioneers and they didnt quite fit even though Crutchfield said they would. Anyway, I put some washers under the speaker and before the rear deck to raise them up and off of the bars running arcross the top of the truck (trunk springs I would guess). Anyway, when the trunk closes the bars touch the speaker magnets, is this going to cause problems? I dont hear any distortion at all, just to be sure, though, i wrapped the trunk bars with plastic tubing where it touches the speakers. Should I rip them out and start all over again or leave em be?
Sorry for such a stupid question, but please, humor me.
Thanks!

Hmm...well...if the spring doesn't put too much pressure on the magnet, then it shouldn't hurt anything. I would wrap some cloth around the springs, though, instead of plastic tubing.
The problem you are going to have is with the washers. By doing this you are not sealing the rear speakers in the trunk. You need to make sure that the speaker is flush with the rear deck. You may even want to remove the springs and put in some shocks to hold the trunk up. Then you will have plenty of space. Or buy some MDF and build a spacer. The trunk springs should hurt unless they are smacking against the magnet.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help! I think i'll cut a spacer out of MDF to put under the speakers. I just dread having to tear the whole back end of my interior apart again. Oh well.
Thanks again!

lol I'm well on my way to 5 times just this week.
I bought some 1/2 inch MDF to cut out those spacers and will be putting them in this weekend. My only concern there is that it will be too tall to fit under the rear deck. I know there is a lot of space available but don't know if there is that much.
Keep you posted
