Remote Start is coming out ASAP!
For all of you that have installed Remote Start into their 5 speed manuals and say that you will never leave it in gear; Trust me it is bound to happen in some way or another.
I installed a remote start into my manual trans. car a while ago vowing that I would never leave it in gear, well until today when I was getting ready to go home for Xmas and rushing to put presents and crap into the car and "accidentally" dropped it into gear when I was putting boxes in the front seat and then when I was remote starting it, the fvcking car started to move WITHOUT ME IN IT!
* I will pause here so that you can laugh at me *
I tried to disable it as soon as I could with the remote and hung on for dear life to the rear to make it stop before it rolled into the street and possibly fvck something up. I parked it backwards facing away from my house and had the trunk open so I was sooooo fvcking lucky that nothing happened at all other than some embarrassment from whoever saw it happen.
I probably have remote started it 365+ times and this one time when my mind wasn't in the right place, this happened. I got away very lucky this time without incident and now am gonna remove the remote start from my car. So whoever has already installed remote start into their 5 speed or is planning to....PLEASE TAKE MY WARNING VERY SERIOUSLY! and learn from my mistake.

I'm glad you can laugh at it, I was laughing too after it happened without incident. But ****, It wasn't so funny when my car was rolling away into the street and I was getting dragged behind it.
Yes I know it is funny but I hope some of you can take something away from this, other than not to be a dumbass like me.

To disable it you press it the same way as you would to start it. Only problem is, it won't do you any good once Newton's law comes into play and the car is already moving.
Oh wait I answered your question wrong, no there is no way to disable it if it is in gear. For auto trannys there is a way to disable it is ever out of park but nothing for manuals.

A friend of mine that works at a car audio store did a remote start on his manual transmission truck, but he did it with an added safeguard. The only way he can remote start his truck is if he does the following sequence:
Put car in neutral
Engage e-brake
Press * button on remote (its a Clifford alarm)
Remove key from ignition (truck is still running)
Get out
Lock doors
Press * button on remote (this turns the truck off)
I know it sounds like a lot of stuff, but its all in the name of safety. If he doesn't do this, the truck will not remote start, as simple as that.
Just something to think about if you really want remote start (I love mine).

I am sure that there is a way that you can integrate the parking brake into a safety feature to lock out remote starting it but I'm done with the remote start after this happened. I was scared shitless and it's coming out, Pronto.
yeah, my compustar won't let you remote start unless the ebrake was up and you remove the key (the car keeps running) and once you close the last door, it automatically turns off and locks/arms the alarm. If you touch the brake pad at all during the process, cuts off the engine and won't let you remote start

same thing happened to my friend. My friend has a 02 civic with a k20 swap and remote start. He left the car in gear and did the remote start and the car rolled down the hill, hoped the curve and hit his neighbors door. The damage wasn't too bad, but it wasn't something he was too happy about.

i have had 2 remote starters in 3 car all 5 speeds and never had a problem i know the one in my csx wont allow you to start the car if it is gear and the ebrake isnt on and before exiting you have to press the start button (parking lights blink 3 times) remove the keys from ignition then you press the lock button and it turns off autostart as-2570tw 2 way with screen
I have a compustar as well and I remote start mine every time everytime I'm walking out to my car. No issues whatsoever and I've owned it for almost two years now. It won't even let me remote start it unless I do a special sequence like the guy who has the clifford.. Anytime the sequence is interrupted by something else, it won't remote start. Sooooo, maybe you didn't buy a remote start that isn't made for a manual transmission. I suggest a compustar or an Astro. They both (and I'm sure there are others out there) that have a manual transmission interface.
I installed the Viper 771 2-Way, and no, it is not made for manual trannys so I had to jerry-rig it to make it work. And doing that sequence thing sounds like a good idea, but seems like waaay too much work for me to do just to remote start.
I tell you nothing is scarier than watching your car roll down the street by itself and you can't do anything about it.

haha It's not really that bad,
Neutral
E-brake
remove key
open door
close door
It takes like half a second!! The shop I'm working for now carries Vipers and I hate the fact that we can't do manual transmissions since they don't offer the interfaces.. I'm suprised DEI hasn't come out with one yet but who knows what they'll have to offer in the future.

If it would have been installed properly, you wouldn't of had this problem. Compustar's have a model, and a process of steps for making them work with a manual transmission. Find a competent dealer and get that **** replaced. And it isn't illegal to have remote starter in a manual car.

i have a 790xv, i just used the neutral safety switch, and used the e-brake as my source. no e-brake, no remote start. Works for me.

DIdnt u hook up the parking break? Where the car wont start unless the ebrake is also up????? If u didnt then u deserve what u got cuz it wouldnt go as far and would stop alot easier w/ the ebrake up even if it was in gear...
I wouldnt uninstall it if I were u, just hookup the ebrake and continue to be cautious. I also never remote start it unless I'm the last person to drive it. Cuz the dealership and ppl not used to haveing remote starts always leave it in gear even though i have stickers that say not to
