WTF? my system broke, again!

Alright. this is getting really really annoying. i must have the worst luck ever.

i was listening to music the other day, not even that loud. and my sub cut out. never came back. i checked all connections and everythings fine. the amp even gets warm.

I have a Phoenix Gold XS2500, pushing a MTX 8000 12" at 4ohms. it's running bridged so 500x1. it just cut out.... not even on a bass hit.

It seems like a lot of people are having trouble with the MTX's. Maybe a wire came loose from inside the box. Or you may have blown a transistor in the amp. Smell the amp and see if you smell burnt plastic. Check the woofer inside and out. Hope you can figure it out.

I had a cheap Boss amp running 2 Boss 10"s and one day it just died on me. a friend of mine bought the amp from me to fix it, but he eventually just threw it away. lol. I only got like $10 or something for it.

Try taking a digital multi meter and check the ohms on the sub. See if the subs reads 4 ohms or none if it is blown. or you can gat another speaker and check the amp.

i know the amp powers up. the power light comes on! it's either just not putting anything out, or hopefully it's the sub (warranty power).

i've checked my ground before, when i was having problems with my last setup (2 JL 12w1s, 400watt crap amp), which i entirely replaced, after my amp died, then my subs died. I'd had this system running for maybe 5 days, and now, it's dead. i'm pissed. I'm pretty sure it's not a grounding problem. Mohawkboom, you want to tell me that my Phoenix Gold is dead now? what brand should i try this time, or shoud i just get ir repaired?

Have any home speakers floating around the house? Even something small to use as a test speaker? Even try using a mounted speaker in the car with wires that are accessible. Try that before concluding that it is your amp. That will eliminate that question. How old is the amp? If it is more then 5 years you might be better off buying a new one. Parts are cheap but labor is not. Maybe buy a new amp and experiment with the phoenix. You can get most of the parts from radio shack. As long as the numbers of color codes on the resistors are not burn't. Trouble shoot some more. If you have a home stereo take your sub and hook it up to that to test it. Not for long though because most home audio is 8 ohms and you could possibly blow something in that amp. Keep trouble shooting though! Sounds like you have covered half of it.

a friend of mine took 2 15" Fischers from his home stereo and put them in his car. they pounded like crazy. he kept them in the enclosures that they came in. looked really funny when he opened his hatch, but they sounded great.

well, if found the problem. the MTX subs are simply junk. the voicecoil wire's have frayed, and one of them is completely disconnected.
