Running large wire/connector through firewall
Anybody run anything REALLY large through the firewall? I need to run a connector for something through mine, its about 1.5" wide, but I'm thinking I don't have room anywhere right now, so I'll have to find a route.
Where can I get this connector through? I really don't want to drill if I don't have to, and since the connector is so big I don't want to drill a hole that big anyway. Suggestions?

^1.5" is bigger than 0 awg.
would it be possible to dismantle the connector to get it through? and then reassemble once youre in?

I know that being that big it's not going to be very fexible either way but it it completely stiff or can it move a little? if it can, I'd cut a hole in each side of the rubber connector and try and force it through....

OEM honda fog instructions call for shoving it through a grommet on the passanger side, behind the fender. if youre looking at the passangers side of the car, it is where the fender meets the door, immediately behind that is a grommet. You can access it by removing the splash gaurd on the outside, and by removing the kick panel and lower dash cover on the inside.
edit: bellz went through that huge grommet on the passangers side floor/firewall. refer to http://www.geocities.com/bellz252/pdf/diyfoglights.pdf
I'd probably cut the plug, get the wires through and then reconnect the wires.

Running fog wires through the grommet? Ah hellz no. I just ran it through the firewall where all the wires go into the cabiin. It's on the driver's side. PM me if you want me to post a pic for you all.
Hmm...now that I look at it again, only one other wire goes through this slot. My fog lights wire go through (for switch) but since it's dark you can't see it. Anyways, this was accomplished by taping the wire with a coathanger and shoving them through. Then from the other side, just feel around for the coathanger and pull the wire through.

cut away at the rubber on the passenger side fire wall hole... Ive got 2 0awg wires ran through that ***** trucka! Shove your biggest screw driver through the hole, then duct tape the connector to the screwdriver, then pull away, have a buddy guide it and it should make it through. Hope this helps

dont wanna drill, dont wanna solder, geez what kinda diy'er are you?
anyway, butt connecters will do the job for you if you wrap them in electrical tape after crimping them on, but soldering would be better.
out of all the options i would have to say that cutting the connector then resoldering it on once you pull the wires seems like the easiest way.

if I could find a 10 conductor wire I would consider cutting it off
I have another idea... I can take the head of the connector off so that it's just the connector it self and wires, and I could bend the connector so it's parallel with the wire, tape it to the wire and try and shove it thru the firewall
im really not planning on doing this for a while yet, probably in early spring or whenever shows are going to start, but a lot of research is going to be involved to figure out how to get this thing thru.

Well, I can't really see where that grommet is, unless its the one I'm already using which I think it is. Also I still havent determined whether or not that or any grommet in our car will allow me to get a 1.5" connector through it.
If that IS the grommet that I think it is, I'm already stuffing a 1/0ga and 10ga wire through it, I don't think I'd have room for another 1.5" connector, but we'll have to see I guess
