Quick Electrical Question

I'm swapping out the factory stereo for an aftermarket one. Do I need to remove the negative battery terminal? I don't have any tools so this would be a major pain in the ***.

I know I should, but what are the problems if I don't? I already got the deck out, I'm ready to take the hookups off the back.

anytime you are working on anything in or behind the dash, it is very wise to remove the negative battery terminal and wait a few minutes. You have SRS wiring behind the dash and any mistakes made can cause them to go off. And since you would be in the front seat, you can have your head blown off by the force of the air bags. No joke either.

You dont have to remove the battery terminals, but it is highly recommended.

if this is your first time doing something like this, then yeah i would def. disconnect the negative battery cable and wait a few minutes while the capacitors for the srs system drain.

I haven't disconnected for just a deck install - but anything beyond it I do.

me neither, never took out the battery for just a HU. But i did fry an amp because was too lazy to disconnect the battery, while putting the power wire in it's terminal it touched the amp's metal case and fried it, it's not bad because the i told the store that it was defective and they gave me a new one.

All done without problems. I wired up the harnesses before I plugged them in on install so it was all good. The only thing I had to connect after was the ground.
I was hunched over the steering wheel while doing it, if it went off I'd be dead.

deck installation is fairly idiot proof - there's not too much to srew up if you can match colored wires.
