Rep Power: 0 Subs and the cold
As winter is almost here I have a question about subs and cold weather. Is it bad for them? some people have told me that it can break them but I have no clue. I just picked up a sub off my friend and im wondering if i should wait until spring to put it in. Its a punch 10" dvc, i just picked it up for some extra bass. thanks in advance.

Rep Power: 0 the colder, the easier stuff breaks, for example the rubber on the sub, when freezing outside, the rubber gets stiff and if you crank it immediatly, it might rip, maybe also the tinsel wire. I don't know if it's really neccesarry to take it out for winter, if you warm it up before turning it up loud. I always take out my complete system out, just did it this weekend, because some days can be pretty cold down here. i was especially worried about my LCD screen, subs aren't that bad if you watch how you use it in the winter. but since u don't have it in your car already, i would wait to put it in, because i know that i don't spend more time in my car in the winter than neccesarry, unless u drive alot in the winter.

Rep Power: 0 you dont need to take it out.
just dont blast it right away. let your car heat up a bit and while its doing that play at very low volumes and thern after a while u can let er rip

Rep Power: 0 thanks for the reply. I drive almost everyday and I like listening to music. I might just go ahead and install it today. I'll just go easy on it for a bit when i start my car.

Rep Power: 0 what i use to do last winter is put the subn volume all the way down and turn it up a notch every little while so i can still listen to music and gradually increase the bass

Rep Power: 0 yeah you just need to let the coils warm up before you turn it up thats all. but rubber doesnt really freeze till you get below zero, but like any other day always let your system warm up before you crank it.

Rep Power: 262 I drove all winter with my system in my car. I don't think I can stand listening to music without my sub even at low volumes. I'd rather risk breaking my VC on my sub than take it out for the winter.
As long as you don't crank up the volume like everyone else said, you should be fine. I still have the same sub as I did last winter, and it still pounds, and no damage yet. As long as you are smart about it, you should have no worries.

The only decks I've had problems with in the winter were stock decks, and never aftermarket ones. I've used decks on the coldest days where my temperature gauge on my car would not go up after driving for 30 minutes, and still used my system, and it worked fine.
Taking out your system for winter is overkill if you ask me. Just don't abuse it, and let you subs warm up before you starting pounding them. Use at low levels first and then turn louder slowly.
On really really cold days I would not turn them up loud at all. If you keep them at low levels on these days, you should be fine.
