Amp under seat
I recently had two amps installed in my car to power my front and rear speakers. when getting them installed I was told they would use ply wood under the seats to install the amps to and NOT SCREW DIRECTLY TO THE SHEET METAL on the floor. What do you know but they screwed them to the floor boards and I now have screws poking out the bottom of my car. My question is what are the negative affects (if any) by them doing this. Will this void my rust warrenty? Am I just over reacting? I am really pissed and dont know what I should do. any suggestions would be great. Please dont flame and ask why I wasnt watching the install. Some of us have to work for a living.
thanks danny

Sorry I can't answer your questions but if I were you, I would go to the shop and tell 'em to do it right. If they said that they would use plywood then they should've, they definitely did a lousy *** job doing what they did. For the rust thing, make sure they seal it/paint it. Thats a disaster waiting to happen. Ohh BTW, you are not over-reacting, I would feel the same way too.

buy a can of bondo rubberized undercoating (paintable kind) and spray some where the screw holes are. don't worry it will stay kinda soft if you ever remove the screws. but it will seal any hole and keep rust away. btw you want to spray from under the car not inside.
jus to let you know that installing the amp under the seat is kinda a bad idea cause if you have passengers in the back there a chance of some kicking and some dirt can go under the amp and for screwing the the amp to the floor is a bad idea cause in case your selling the car and they find out that you have a amp under the seat it will take some value off the car but hey it your car dude good luck ....
Iin the nine months Ive had my car I havent had people in the back seat but twice, and thats beside the point. I am nott selling my car for a long time. Did you not completly read my thread. I am not asking if it is bad to put it under there, I was stating my frustration that they drilled it to the floor and not to ply wood like they said. P.S. learn to type and use grammer correctly. I just got dumber reading to your thread. No offense though

To your vehicle issue, there is a simple fix. You can, as gearbox said, go over the screws with some rubberized undercoating and be perfectly fine. If the integrity of the vehicle is your primary concern, remove the screws and have a skilled welder tack the holes then cover them with the rubberized undercoating. Another solution is available as well, and more cost effective. This method would be to purchase some duct tape (the kind used for heating and air ducts, not the grey stuff with the duck on the label). It can be picked up at any place that carrise heating and air. It'll be a chrome looking foil tape. Remove the screws, get a grinder (sandpaper will work but you'll be tired) and remove the undercoating where you'll apply the tape. Apply the tape to both the inside and outside of the vehicle. Put a coat of bondo over the inside, and outside layers of tape. On the outside, sand that down and coat it with rubberized undercoating. Just like that, your holes are repaired. Buy a piece of 1/2 inch MDF (or ply board of your choosing) and silicone, contact cement, whatever, it to the floor(the metal) under the carpet. Replace the carpet, and then install the amps, screwing them into the 1/2 inch sheet.
