Question about factory cd unit 2001 ex
Question about factory cd unit 2001 ex
I'm going to give some background here as to what I am doing and why I am asking this:
I've got an mp3 player. had it for 3 years now. I like to plug it in the car and having 20gb of music at all times. In my old 96 civic hx I had installed an aiwa stereo with a front panel aux jack. I plugged the mp3 player in with a 1/8 mini stereo cable. Worked great, was a pain in the *** though. Always removing the faceplate so it wouldn't get stolen (again) so when i got in the car it was put on faceplate, plug in cable, put mp3 player in cradle plug in other end of cable. I just sold that car and did not keep the stereo because the jack was dead... the contacts were screwed up from being used so much.
So, I had planned to buy a 2005 ex which has the aux jack standard. Turns out I could not afford one. I ended up with a 2001 ex at a good deal.
What I need to know is does the factory stereo have any rear inputs such as left/right rca or something else that I can use to plug in the mp3 player? (by running a cable from that out to the console that can plug into a 1/8 mini stereo)
The reason I ask is that I noticed the factory cd player has a cd/tape button. I wasn't sure if it was possible to put a second deck in the car that would connect to the main cd player thus enabling the cd/tape button to toggle. If so I could probably hook the mp3 player up and use that button to toggle as a cd/aux.
I guess I can pull the thing out on my next day off and check it out, but figured I would ask before wasting time.
If it cannot be done, I've got a new stereo in mind... I would just rather stay factory so I don't need to deal with that removeable faceplate inconvenience plus the install kit will remove the pocket with the flip door below the stereo. And it will save me money.

Man you mean I typed all that for nothing? lol
Thanks, I didn't know there was such a thing and most people have no idea what I am talking about when I say "mp3 and aux jack". Should've expected people here to know though.

I just found this also crutchfield.com/S-hEFuTlFvUna/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=469HO98AUX (can't link due to post count)
I'm not using an ipod, it's a dell dj 20gb so a lot of the solutions in all the ipod discussions weren't 100% relevant since there is no possible way to control the dell from the head.
Well I got the adapter from crutchfield and luckily I started looking through the owner's manual for the car and found out about the anti theft code for the stereo. The previous owner did not write it anywhere in the manual. I checked every page.
Now I know I can bring the SN for the stereo to the honda dealer and get the code (i hope) but in the meantime I want to get my adapter hooked up.
I know it's generally a good idea to disconnect the negative battery terminal when pulling out the stereo. The question is will disconnecting just the negative terminal force the stereo to ask for the code? or is it just when the battery is fully disconnected? Hopefully the power connector on the back of the stereo is long enough that I can pull it out a little ways and have someone hold it while I hook the adapter on the back. I just don't want to be a week with no stereo since I drive about 2 hours a day.
edit: I went ahead and had the dealer get me the code before doing anything.
