Mounting amp under front seat

Anybody done this? What did you do to secure the amp?

I am probably going to put a small amp for my midbass under my passenger seat in the near future, just doing some advance research

ive got my amp under my passenger seat,...not "mounted" to anything,...but it doesnt go anywhere,..soo not that big of a deal to me,...and has good ventilation so no serious overheating problems with it being there.

I have one amp under my passenger seat and one under the drivers seat. They have been there for about a year with no problems. I say if it fits and doesnt rub when you move the seat back and forth then put it there it will be much harder to steal if your car is ever broken into. I mounted my amps with 2inch sheet metal screws. They stick out the bottom of the car but are not noticable unless you look for them.

Using 1" self tapping sheet metal screws works just fine, and won't stick out of the bottom of the car. Remember, you're not supporting the entire weight of the amp in the air (as if you were mounting to the underside of the rear deck), so you don't have to go nuts on screw size to mount the amp. There shouldn't be anything under the car to hit, but just look and make sure especially if you have added any nitrous or fuel lines to your car.

Just a note for anyone that might mount an amp under their driver's seat- if you have an adjustable seat, check clearance with the seat all the way down!

I have my clarion head unit brain under the seat along with a 6 disc changer and a small amp and no issues at all.

I was thinking of doing that, but using self adhesive Heavy Duty Velcro....just stick it to the amp and it'll stick to the carpet under the seat...not a big fan of drilling through the car...but prob not as secure...oh well

I used 1" sheet metal screws, and about 1/4" stuck out on the bottom, I just hit those exposed points with a dremel cut off wheel. If your amp has thick mounting points, it may not stick out at all, this was a Lightning Audio amp that has thin mounting tabs. That's what I was saying about not having to use a long screw, you're not supporting the full weight of the amp, just holding it in place, so you don't need a long screw to make it work.

if Im mounting something under a seat I usually try to slide a piece of wood under the carpet so I can avoid drilling holes into the body of the car.

That occured to me.

The idea I did have is wait until I do my sound deadening install (won't be for a while) and put a piece of 1/2" mdf under both the seats while everything is out of the car and then silicone em down.

I like that idea... the sound deadener keeps the wood in place and no holes drilled in the car.

Good idea.

At the very least, I'd put a spacer under the amp to lift it off the carpet ever so slightly. The cooling fins, most likely, are going to be on the ends, but under there, the ones in the back will be fine as far as cooling, but the ones up front might reflect some of the heat back to the amp because of that small bump under there. Raising it a tad might make at least the top half of the fins functional. Plus, it'll allow the bottom side of the amp to get a little ventilation. Still, might not be a bad idea to put a cpu fan or two under there to aid in cooling. Don't want the amp going all thermal on you being a competitor.

I just want to put the distributer, the capacitor, and the interior amp (alpine v12) under there, the sub im using is the infinity basslink, and it has a built in amp, so i wont be having two down there just one..... i do want a clean set up, and my dad drives the car around alot, and hez old, so i need to make sure that if worse comes to worse, he can get the spare out when he needs it....

My setup under there was anything from clean. If you want to cram everything under there and still keep the spare your going to have to sacrifice asethtics. I took a FG mold of the wheel well, cut out the part where the spare sits and then attached all my mounting points straight to the fiberglass. It was a little flimsy since I only did two layers, but it worked.

is this possible

making a whole new wood floor board, putting a hinge on it, and bolting everything against that wood (floor) and compensating for the screws not going thru to the other side, so when i left it i can adjust it when i lift it up like a door. does that even make sense, i dont know what im saying anymore

you mean mounting the equipment to the underside of the board, so when you look in the trunk all you see is a normal looking floor? it can be done, but your going to need alot of ventilation since your bypassing the heatsinks
