there's always an argument over 2 subs vs. 1 sub... of course 2 subs will be louder, but only by about 3dB average, which is not worth the extra $$$ to some people... i'm running 4 Kicker S12L7s (SoloBaric 12"s) off of a pair of Kicker KX1200.1 amps, and although most people would call it overkill, it's what i wanted, so that's what i got...it's mostly personal preference...
i personally recommend a pair of decent 12"s... 10"s are fine, but in most cases you'll find that the 12"s can easily hit the tight punchy notes that 10"s can, but the 10"s will be hard-pressed to reproduce the deep low frequencies that the 12"s can...
now about the items you listed in your post: basically, they suck... you'll get people that are Volfenhag or Audiopipe fans that will tell you otherwise, but you will NOT get the performance out of those subs/amps/combos that you pay for...
you might want to increase the spending limit by another $100 or so... that will open up ALOT more options...check sounddomain.com or crutchfield.com for good deals... they have sub/amp packages for less than $300, they're quality name-brands (RF, Alpine, MB Quart, etc), and they have warranties, return policies, etc you won't find on eBay... or just search for individual components... on crutchfield, you can grab a low-priced amp such as the Profile AP1000M (500 watt mono sub amp, $159.99) and run it to a couple of Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 1 12"s ($119.98 for a pair), use the $20 left over for an amp kit, then hook it all up in your car and can still return it all within 30 days for a full refund if you're not satisfied... can't do that on eBay!
OR... if you really want to help out a fellow 7thGen member: i have a Rockford Fosgate Punch Stage 2 15", an MTX amp to push it, AND a sealed carpeted box that i'll give ya for $300 shipped... all you'll need is a $20 amp kit and you're good to go...
this 15" is awesome... it hits tight for rock/techno/etc. but can still slam for rap/hip-hop and anything else... just holla if ya want more pics or info or whatever...
by the way.....if this helped at all, please take a second to hit me up with some rep... just click on the little smiley face below and help me out, i'd appreciate it! good luck with your search...

my bad, i was looking at the others... Kicker Comp VRs are awesome subs... you're taking a gamble with ANYTHING you buy on eBay, but if you do a little research (i.e. make sure the seller has good feedback, make sure product is not refurbished, etc) you should be fine... i've bought subs on eBay before and i have never had a problem with any of them; it's mainly the amps, headunits, etc that you have to be careful with (circuits fried, motorized faceplate doesn't operate, etc)...
cliff's notes: Comp VRs kick ***, i say go for it (if you're not going to buy my stuff, that is!)

haha...yea, its not for me, its for my friend, and he already said he doesn't want to buy used...and i was kinda surprised u didn't mention the comps in ur first post, thats why i just wanted to make sure..hehe...i'll tell him to get those...even though those are 10's they should kick a$$
oh yo man..i got another question..all this about subs, got me thinkin to get some new ones...so yo, can i just unwire the subs and amp, and take them out and just put some new subs and amp in, and just wire them back up..??
yeah man, go with name brand. I thought I could get a cheap pair of volfenhag subs in a box, deal sounded great. I also got a legacy amp too. Sounded like crap and I had to sell it for half what I paid for it within 2 days. (my opinion, of course)
Now I have a pair of Phoenix Gold 12in octane Rs with a phoenix amp and it rocks.
Go name brand, its better.
usaf has some great ideas too. Find a nice namebrand package and you cant go wrong. I also recommend jl if the budget was increased. Good luck and let us know

the Profile amp should be fine... it's one of the "California" series amps, and i've used them in a couple different friends' systems with great results... however, Profile is not a CEA-2006 Compliant company (meaning that amp says "1000 watts" but you're not going to get 1000 watts), but it should be plenty powerful enough to drive any of the setups you listed in your most recent post...
as for those sub setups, this is the order that i would pick them in, from first choice to last resort:
-Kicker CompVR
-Alpine Type R
-MTX Thunder 5500
after these 3, i would pick the Phoenix Gold Xenons... i have never heard them, but they look pretty badass, and i'm going to make an educated guess and say (based on appearance and listed specs) that they are comparable to the subs listed above... and to anybody that's reviewing this, if i'm wrong in my assumption (i.e. you have these subs and they suck), please take a sec to post your opinion... anyway, back to the list...
i would suggest the Infinity Reference and MTX Road Thunders as last resorts (in that order)... they are more entry-level subs such as the Kicker Comps, Alpine Type Es, MTX Thunder4500s, etc (basically, they're a lower level of quality than what you seem to be interested in)...
some may disagree as far as the order of the Kicker/Alpine/MTX list is concerned, but i took into account that the CompVR has an RMS power rating of 400 watts, as opposed to the 500 watts of the other two... since the Profile amp will not be putting out a true 1000 watts, the CompVRs will be closer to their full potential with less power... other than that, it's personal preference... all three of those subs are great choices if you're ballin' on a budget...
hope this helps, bro... good luck!

oh yeah, one more thing... if you're getting that amp, make sure you get the dual 2-ohm voice coil subs and wire 'em up like in the diagram below to maximize your amp's potential... good luck...

Personally, if he can find another $75-100 to spare, I'd be inclined to recommend a pair of Adire Audio Shiva's (12's) and a JBL Power series amp. It'll blow the ***** off the comp VR's.
Or, another option is to go through Elemental Designs, and get one of their package deals. They have some entry level subs and a nine.2 amp deal going for right around $300.

there are several brands we could all recommend, i was just trying to help make a decision based on the choices he had already narrowed it down to... i didn't want this to go from "i have $300 and am thinking about some Volfenhags" to "well if you'll spend $5000 more you can get a pair of Digital Designs 18"s and 4 KX1200.1s" haha... it's easy for all of us to think of great ways for other people to spend their money

get a 4 gauge amp kit... that'll be fine for what you'll be running, and will also work if you decide to upgrade in the future (if you run smaller gauge now, you'll need to pull the power/gnd/etc and run larger gaugewhen you upgrade.. .and that's a pain in the a$$)...
4ga will be alright for any amp around 1000 watts and below (if it's a smaller amp that doesn't accept 4 gauge, pick up a distribution block)... just upgrade even further if you start running multiple amps that have a high current draw... for example, i'll soon be running a pair of Kicker KX600.2s in addition to the pair of KX1200.1s, so i'll be upgrading from 4 gauge to 0/1 gauge...

Hey USAF..i got ONE more question for you....all this talk about subs got me thinking that I want some different ones....Cause right NOW, i have 2 12's MTX 8000's, and I believe they are 4 ohm...its got 400 watts RMS...and they're being powered by a Mono channel MTX 801D..and as i'm re-looking the specs of the amp, its giving me 2 different numbers for 4 ohms...one is 250 x 1 and another is 400 x 1, but to that number it says "Dynamic Power"
SOOO...my QUESTION is, should i get some NEW SUBS or just get a better amp??...

thanx a lot bro..i appreciate ur response...but if the amp is already squeesing out 400 watts to a 400 watt subs...would it really make a big difference if the amp were to squeeze....lets say..600 watts...??...and I'm not sure wehre i heard it, but i heard that its not good to over power ur subs or they'll blow??
