Alpine vs Pioneer iPod interface

So i have the pioneer ipod interface on my 8600mp and I'm pretty dissapointed with it. the biggest problem I have is that you cant navigate without changing the current song your listening to. I was just wondering what everyone's oppinion of alpines interface is.

reason I'm asking is because the alpine accomodation pricing at BB is almost too good to pass up and I'm trying to decide if its worth a switch in decks.

Alpine vs Pioneer

I installed an Alpine 9851 in my 04 Civic Ex and I installed a Pioneer DEH-P4700MP in my sister's Toyota Camry and I personally prefer the Alpine interface. Yes, it cost about $100 more, and i like the sound and customization better, but I believe it is a better cd player for the money. The Pioneer is good but does not have the power or looks that the Alpine has, it also doesn't have the input capabilities the Alpine has. I will say that if you have a civic and install it you will, yes you will have some trouble seeing the screen in the day. I believe it is because of the high gloss Alpine screen and the angle that the cd player is put in at. It also makes it difficult to use the remote, so I just point it straight at the ceiling to get it to work, otherwise it won't unless I hold it straight at it, and I don't want to because I am lazy. This is not due to the cd player, but the angle at which the player faces, which is slightly upward. At night though, you can't beat the Alpine's looks. But the interface is very user friendly by the way. Use the silver **** on the center and press it to adjust most of the controls (bass, treble, fade,etc..) with the same song still on. press the menu button to adjust the BBE, which definitely enhances the song, it brings out each band in the music and makes it sound clearer and louder, almost lifelike. This is with stock speakers too (and 2 Kicker L5 10's and a RF 551s 1100watt amp). The Alpine is a great buy, but if you want to save some money, go for the Pioneer. Oh, and by the way, I wouldn't go to BB becuase I don't like those guys. Don't trust them and don't like to pay taxes. I would suggest buying it off of Ebay (cheapest price but no warranty) or off of Crutchfield, which actually warranties the player for a year from any defects. I would also suggest installing it myself because it takes about 1 hour if you get the info before hand and you will know what to do if anything goes wrong. This is just my opinion and I'm sure that many ppl have had good experiences at BB, but I haven't. So if you do install it yourself, check out the DIY in this site and know that the job gets done right.

thanks for the info. Im an installer at BB, and the discounts for alpine gear is abnoxious. I was referring to the ipod interface that alpine makes vs the pionneer interface. With the piooneer if I try to navigate to another song on my ipod, the song will change each time I advance a song. Basically I'm wondering what alpine's ipod interface's navigation is like.

My $200 alpine hu is better in every way than my $600 top end pioneer premier. there's no comparison and I've heard the ipod is much better for the alpine deck.

i have the alpine ipod. I can search songs or folders w/o stopping the song. I hate having to search through songs using rotary. Itll be better if i could just hold a button down. Im happy with it.

So you can't turn the scroll wheel on the right and search with the ipod??? I know you can scroll through the song list normally if you turn the right scroll ****. I said "turn the ****", and not press the ****. Just making sure...lol.

I don't know if it works the same way with the ipod or not. Cause I can scroll without changing songs with just a normal mp3 CD. I don't have an ipod so I don't know.

If that doesn't work either, I'll reconsider getting an ipod mini for my car.

"The Alpine's interface has a single speed -- approximately one item per second -- that makes scrolling through a large number of playlists, albums, or artists frustrating. Alpine told me that this is a limitation of its head units, which weren't designed for a device that holds thousands of songs. The company recommends first using a playlist, artist, or album search to narrow down the selection so that you don't have to scroll through as many items."

1 item per second sounds about right

Yeah i love that feature when it comes to mp3 cds, but that doesnt work with an ipod. You use that same ****, but can only go up and down. It really sucks if your looking for sevendust when your only at bush.

ah that sucks to hear. I guess I might not end up buying a an ipod after all.

Maybe its better for me to stick with just a regular mp3 cd, but then again. I don't really use my scroll option that often.

Can you scroll if you make different directories on the ipod?? I mean like can you just simply switch to another directory?? Maybe that could help out a little. I dunno, just a suggestion, I don't know if it'll work or not.

the alpine ainet for cd changers is the same way. you press the scroll thing and turn but it is way slow especially if you have mp3. takes like two secs just to switch to the next song display.
