One of my subs just stopped working
I just installed my new system yesterday from a audio shop I was driving along blasting my system all of a sudden there was a quick pause and like the system started pounding harder and like the treble just started to sound like *** inside the car... I pulled over to see what had happend and only one of my subs was only working the other had no response what so ever... The subs are like type r 12's and they have been sitting around my house for 2 years and I was running a mtx amp like 600w.. has anyone had the same problem before? for sure it cannot be a loose connection or the sub could of not blown!!!
well first things first, check all the hookups. The best way to fix an audio system is to eliminate variables. So check all your hookups inside and outside your box, because one might just be loose. So you think the sub blew? What makes you think that? Just it not working?
i guess cuz your speakrs was sitting for 2yers....and rubber around the speakers got hard...and they why i think....or may be u are putting more power to the speakers...then u supose to......i could be wrong....not sure

A 600w amp wouldnt put too much power to two Type R's, it would put way to little. those r like 300rms ea and were probably underpowered. U could have blown them b/c u underpowered them too much, u could have blown a channel on the amp (if it isnt a mono), or it could be the wiring. get a DMM and check. If u dont have one, go to Home Depot/ whatever and get one for under $15 and click it over to the 20volt range and see whats getting power and what isnt
Yeah I checked most of the connections out except the one from the sub box to the sub... they all seem to be fine most of the people I talked to said the amp is more then enuff to power the subs.. I am going back to the place that installed everything and gonna get them to check it out hopefully its not the sub cause thats the only thing I dont have under warrenty... So I will update u peepz tommorow on what the cause was thanks

Is the speaker locked up, ot does the cone move? If it's locked up, you fried it. If your deck has 4v or higher pre-outs, I'd switch teh amp from low volt input to high input, should it have a switch for such. My JL amp got bumped and that switch was flipped. When I reinstalled it, it fried the sub. Also, check all connections. From the amp to terminals. From terminal to sub. etc. If the sub is locked up, however, you might want to try to file a warranty claim. They may honor it, and they may not. My old sub, a Virtual Technologies RIP Hammer Pro, before they went out of business, carried a lifetime warranty. This was because that particular company built the sub to take a pounding. The shop here had 2 come back returned in 4 years of selling them. Mine, and one other, which was a VT Hammer Pro. Both had fried vc's. I fried mine because of the condition above. I'd check everything, and turn down the gain a bit before deciding what else to do. Those type r's should handle about 1kw if memory serves correctly.
Finally figured it out there was a loose connection with the sub itself the wiring from the the connector to the speaker itself was messed up so we had to re souder it and it started working again.... Weird but system is pounding harder then ever so I am happy
