8 ohm ---> 4 ohm
8 ohm ---> 4 ohm
Alright guys I got to looking at the instructions on my subwoofers yesterday but I couldnt figure this out. I have a two channel rockford fosgate amp, with two 12" rockford fosgate subs. Right now I have one positive wire and one negative wire running from one channel to the sub and the same with the other sub. Now how do I wire it up so that its 4 ohms instead of 8 ohms???
Thanks for your help and sorry for the newb question. Im still learning the ice side of things.

two ch amp are u using...both ch ??
your subs are dual voice coil ???
bridge the amp hook both spk on same wire....
if u hve dual voice then chek this site..for kickers...should work same way..

if your speakers are 4 ohms each, your 2 channel wont handle the load since itll equal 2 ohms.... if they are 4 ohms each.. wire them up to the 2 channel so they can equal 8 ohms.... if they are dual 4 ohms each, connect them to the 2 channel amp to equal those to a 4 ohm .load. but if they dual 2 ohms each, you need a mono amp...
I do not know the amp number but I'm pretty sure the subs are P4412. So what do you think I should do?
The amp is a two channel amp and I am plugged into both channels right now.
I want the best and loudest way to connect the system up. As you can see I am extreme newb at this stuff.

then hook the positive up to the posite on channel a and the negative up to the negative on channel b

Nick I own you one, im repping you. Also one last question, by hooking this up with the two channels how does that affect the impedance? In other words with one channel it is running at 4 ohms. What about the two channel connection does it change that? and as far as power to the speakers what does that do?
Im sorry ive been such a bother im just trying to learn more.
Thanks realitycheck

the impedance drops it down to 4 ohms for the 2 subs then by bridging the amp it drops the overall impedance down to 2 ohms. so the amp will put out its rated 2 ohm power. in all honesty its so complex to explain i never tried to grasp it i just know how to use it enough for car audio. http://home.comcast.net/~jmccomas2/w..._Laws.jpg.html

see that stuff isnt as fun as "put this wire here and that sh*t will dump"

any fosgate amp should handle 2 ohms. just make sure if you add up the combined rms of the 2 subs it isnt too much more than the amps rms rating on the amp. if you cant find the 2 ohm rating divide the max power by 3 and that tpically works with all fosgates.
Yeah if you wire your subs in parallel they will equal 2 ohm, you cant bridge your amp into 2 ohms, it will overheat. If you have two terminals on your box, hook up each channel of the amp to each terminal. Your subs will be running at a higher ohms so they wont be quite as loud but they will be clearer, and you will have the assurance that your system wont blow up

well you might wanna invest into a mono amp man........... ive experienced many fosgate amps and they run kind of hot...... so id imagine it would heat up pretty quick if you tried bridging it........ a mono would be perfect.....
Well if it blows I should still have my warranty from best buy. So I walk in hand it to them and say it dont work and they hand me the newest model. Thats why I paid the extra money for the longer warranty. Thanks for the help guys Im going to try it soon I'll let you know how it turns out.
