JL Slash Amps...to chrome or not to chrome...
Hi all,
Well, my setup is once again changing. Just when I thought I should complete the fiberglass trunk setup I had started (needed bondo, and paint), my amps blew, yes amps, both of them. Diamond Audio D7's. Supposedly they have issues. I could have gotten them repaired, but I am taking the alternate route, they will send me new D6 amps that I don't particularly want, but I will take and sell and buy JL Slash amps instead.
Slash amps now come in a chrome finish, I was thinking about going this route, what do you think? Get the bling edition or just go with regular finish? Since the install will be a little showey, I am thinking about the chrome.
BTW, I am getting a 1000/1 to power my 12" Diamond Audio TDX, and a 450/4 to power my Diamond Audio D9 Components (150watts to the mids, 75watts to the tweets).

It depends on the rest of your set-up and install. Is anything else going to have the bling factor? I was looking at those when I was thinking about buying a scion. I then decided to go with the satin finish because I was going to get a silver Scion adn do the W1v2's. Depends on teh rest of the setup. If you're not going to have chrome anywhere else, I wouldn't. Maybe get the satin cover anodized to match the rest of your color scheme. Isn't it like $75 or so to add the chrome?

Well, i am not going to chrome anywhere else, but I am planning on using polished aluminum in a few places. I just think the Slash are bland looking. I wish I had some good pictures of the chrome Slash.
Also, on the retail level, the Slash amps in chrome are more like $250 more. I am not paying these prices, my price is a lot less, thats the only reason I am considering it.

I like the slash series how they are, chrome is a bit to much IMO I have the 500/1 and 300/4 and would never think about chrome for them.

You and I have very similar setups. I have the Jl 500/1 and 300/2 with 6.5 Hex's in the kickpanels, (silk tweets in the kicks, alum in the a-pillars), M5's in the rear deck (powered off of the rear fill of the Hex's). My trunk is a false floor with two D9 104's
We have the chrome slash series at our shop and I really don't like them as much.
Just a question for you though, how do you like your components/subs? I've heard them before and I really liked the way they sounded. However, I only listened to them for the length of one song so I just wanted the opinion of someone who listens to them daily because I'm thinking about switching over to Diamond Audio. I've read nothing but good things about them.

Hey Rufus, got any pics of what you did in the trunk? Interested in seeing that. Also, you think that 500/1 is enough for two D9 10's? I love beating up my TDX, it seems to like power
The JL rep is trying to get a chrome Slash amp so he can bring it up with him the next time he comes to the shop, I think the idea is nice, I just want to see how "chromed" they are.

I have had the TDX for 2 years or so, love it. I love the output, sounds great, gets loud, what more can you ask for? (TDX=D9)
The D9 components are just bad ***. Tons of midbass, smooth tweeter, just incredible sounding. Only thing is that the mids and tweets and crossover are huge, hard to do a simple install with them. The tweeter is what I like the most, very detailed and even though its metal, its not very harsh.
Nice setup Rufus. I am going to be doing something similar with my TDX like you have in the second pic, with it inverted, still working on it, hope to get it done this year and have pics up.
