Will i blow my subs...

ok i got 2 alpine 4 ohm type r subs which are rated at 300rms each. the amp i'm looking at is gonna give them 450rms each. am i risking damaging the subs by overpowering them with proper gain settings? my pioneer deck has 2v preouts so if i set the gain to 5v should i be fine playing the deck at high volumes?

AlienX will become famous soon enough
you should be fine, best way to really find out and set everything to be perfect ( no clipping/distortion, and not blowing them ) is to set everything up on a oscilloscope first to set the gain, then just turn down the sub volume with deck controls ( if possible ) thats the proper way of doing thing.

Simple/risky way: hook it up, set volume to 80%, set gain on amp to the point right before you hear the subs distorting. (This with sub vol being 100%)

Im running 420rms to 300rms subs and NPs. Its not power per say that blows the subs, its clipping/distortion that will kill them. Over powering is sometimes a good thing with some amps because it will let you reach higher db without picking up a lot of noise ( which ALL amps will do as you keep kicking up the power ) noise being a very bad thing..
