Amp & Crossover settings SOLVED!!! Thanks guys!!!

I just finished replacing all my speakers with XR Cxi's and installed my amplifier today. I tested it earlier and I am not really feeling my mid bass but the highs are excellent and clear. I have a 4channel pioneer amp and I have the gain set almost halfway and when I turn my volume mid 20's It doesn't distort at all I think that is a good sign. My hu's max vol. is 33 its a clarion DXZ845MC with 1.8 V preamp output. All the bass and treble on hu is flat. Should I turn up the bass a lil bit? Maybe their just new and needs to break in to get its full potential.

Here are my settings on my Xovers on all 4

Midrange = Low

Tweeter = -1.5 db

Am I giving enough power to my speakers or they are underpowered? My amp gives out 60 RMS x 4 @ 4Ohms

Let me know what you think guys thanks.

The amp is pretty weak. Unless you mean 600 RMS x4

The amp is 60 Watts RMS x 4 and my speaker's power handling is 70 Watts. Is that too bad?

sixty watts a channel is far from to weak. I have a 50x2 alpine running my infinitys and its more than i could ask for.

as far as the settings, play with it and see what you like. Music is very subjective, what sounds good to one person will sound awful to someone else

when you buy higher end speakers you'll want a better amp. That amp is too weak for speakers and subs

Well dude I can't afford an expensive amplifier. A high end amplifier is double the price of the speakers I bought. I don't have enough budget for that.

04|5spdCivic can only hope to improve
well first of all what model amp is it. from my experience pioneer is not very good for car audio. if i were you i would buy a good 400 watt 2 or 4 channel amp. you can get one for around 150$ or less online. that way you can always turn the amp down. that would solve the power problem as for tuning the **** i'd go to a good audio shop and talk to them about it and probably have them do it. they'd prob only charge like 10-20 bucks.

Well I got a 4 Channel Pioneer 6100F amplifier 600 watts

60 Watts x 4 @ 4Ohms

150 Watts x 2 @ 4Ohms

75 Watts x 4 @ 2Ohms

HPF (80Hz, -12dB)
LPF (80Hz, -12dB)

Well I turned all the bass, treble, bass boost off on the HU and turn both my gains down. I did the normal procedure and turn up the volume of HU 80-90% of max. (hu max is only 33) I actually reached max volume without distortion with all the gains down but I turned it down to 30 as my max. Then I turn each gain til I hear distortion and turn it back to where its not distorting.

Ok that's done so I left everything flat. I was wondering if its ok to add a lil bit of bass from HU so I can have some mid bass output on my coaxials. I don't know what's wrong but my bass sound weak.

pitch - your procedure looks right - if your speakers can take it all flat, probably want to leave it that way until you get a sub. Once you have gain levels set then use any sound shaping on your deck to add bass/treble, etc.

Oh ok so you can add more bass and treble after you've set the gain. Thanks man. I'll redo the procedure again to make sure.

make sure to keep the amp at 4ohm cause with components u dont wanna go lower and lose sound quality. if u just have the coaxil's in the doors with no inclouser for them they will lack midbass, u need to somehow make an inclouser and seal it up to make them put out more bass. also look at getting a linedriver wit a built in crossover and filter so u can adjust cutoff points for the speakers and properly tune them, also the line driver will up the input signal giving a cleaner sound.

I do have coaxials front and rear. So I need some kind of baffles? to get more bass out of it?

you dont really need an enclosure for speakers in a door. The speaker is designed to work in an infinite baffle setup. As long as the speaker is sealed where it mounts up to the door, it shouldnt really be an issue. Some people will seal every hole in the door to increase midbass ouput, its really up to you.

Hey guys I want to thank you all who responded on this thread. I finally got my amp and my new speakers working today. Woohoo

The problem was caused by a mistake on the positive and negative terminal output of the amp going to the speakers. I switched it and dang I can't believe what I heard ...A HUGE difference. I am now happy to hear the real sound of my new xr series speakers.

Again Thanks a bunch to y'all!!!
