New @ Stereo stuff

I'm wanting to upgrade my stereo system, I'll probably have it installed, because I'm not very handy, and I'd probably end up breaking stuff. And I'm new to this stereo equipment terminology and what not.
I was looking at this stereo to Power Infinity Kappa's
And an Infinity Perfect Sub and Infinity Reference Amp
I don't know what kind of Ampt to get

the kappas are the only good one in there. And they have to be amped to work properly.

What would you guys suggest? Amps, Sub, Head Unit. I'm not looking to spend on a tight budget, but I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money i.e. up to 1500, nearing 2 grand possibly. I just want something that is better than the stock setup. I know there will be difference of opinion, but good sound for less money is generally the idea.

make sure you get the right size speakers... 5-1/4" are too small

check my profile for what I have now. Do a good install, and you won't have to spend a ton. Get some proper sized kappa components, amp them with a good amp (jl, alpine, etc) and get a 10 inch sub and amp it. You don't need to go crazy spending on expensive stuff.

for the money infinity kappa perfects are nice my friend had 2 and they shattered the back windhshield of his jeep cherokee(i was sitting in the back seat when it happened). they sound real clean and hit nice. you dont need to get component speakers unless you are going competion 2 or 3 way speakers sound fine. with amps i have always got an amp that peak power is about 75% of what the peak of the sub or subs is just so you dont blow them as easily. i learned all my knowlege from reading stuff online it really isnt that hard to figure out. if you look at my setup i spent just around a grand for everything and it sounds great still have stock speakers but i can filter the sound that goes to them so it doesnt get distorted.

Wrong, peak wattage isn't important, RMS wattage is the most important in picking a sub and amp. Also you should always get an amp that has a bit higher RMS wattage than the sub so that you can push the sub to it's potential without sending distorted sound to the sub.

most definately just trying to give the newbie some basics so he wont blow his subs, but peak is important if it isnt high enough it will fry the amp cuz it will overheat from trying to power something that is drawing alot of power that is why my pioneer amp caught in fire not enough juice. trust me on this one my uncle managed a stereo store and he put together some really nice stereos and taught me lots of stuff.

Thanks for all the info guys, greatly appreciated. I'll do more research, and see what I'll want to do. Being a newb it's great, so that way I don't make a bad decision.

first off those are from what website???? Crutchfield is one of the biggest rip offs you can find please don't order anything from there i hope your just using them for links of the stuff you wanna get. The Infinity products are pretty good from what I've heard but the dual radio is like buying your shoes at payless in simple terms its what we call buying something that'll end up being sold soon for a cheaper price then what u got it at and then you'll turn around and get something better. For radios my suggestions would be alpine and or pioneer i know your not looking to spend too much money so you dont even have to get a Pioneer Premier 860 like I did but you can get something lower then that model for a reasonable price with all the features and things that would help you perfect your sound through your radio. If you need anything else I'll keep my eye on this thread and help you out with whatever you need.

PS for subs I'd recommend Kicker, Audiobahn, or Pioneer. As for amps I'd say find somewhere that sells Memphis audio and go get it you wont find it online none of there products are sold online but also look into audiobahn, alpine, or pioneer amps.

I went through alot of experimenting and $$ not knowing what to do before I got my system the way I wanted. So plan it right the first time and how you want it in the long run. Don't say first hey I want big subs, cause all that 100lbs is gonna make your car real slow and eat up power then realize later its nothing like what you want.

I've been there a little too before and i love how my system sounds. My audio shop made alot of recommendations to me and I love them for it lol. but also look your better off spending the money on it now and doing the job right the first time or else your gonna go through a few systems over and over again. My theory is do it once do it right if you dont have enough saved up for a good system then save up a little more and spend a little more so that you wont spend alot more on it later.

you cant have just one system because with time you will want something that has more bass or better highs that is how life is i have had 4 systems in all started out with 1 10, then 1 12, then 2 12s, and now my current 12s. theres always that wanting to get something better.

www.audiobahn.com

When it comes to bass and a real big thump I give audiobahn the first place prize they have some sick subs. Listen to this and dont judge the car and the sub because of what car it was in before i finish the story lol my cousin put one 12 in his mini cooper with an audiobahn amp im not too sure how much wattage that amp is pushing i know it was a nice small car with the open back into the trunk but when i say that sub hits hard i mean it hits hard my system sounds good and clean and is more then enough for me to go deaf with but i sat in that mini cooper and i couldnt help but laugh cause i think i lost brain cells in his car lmao

memphiscaraudio.com

I have memphis amps and interior components and the amps give me a crystal clear sound the subs hit hard with the 500 watt mono block amp. I know most of you have barely ever heard of this company but trust me they are serious competitors to all other companies out there I think they just like their position as the underdogs lmao they dont push to have big market stores like best buy and circuit city to have any of their products and thats why they are unheard of. Most audio installation centers dont carry any of their products either but i was told it was good i gave the amps a chance and was told if i didnt like them i could swap for something else so i agreed next thing i know months later im installing interior components from memphis audio in my vic enough said.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...6_3123,00.html

Need i say more Pioneer is exactly what its name says it is they are the Pioneers of car audio period

its about knowing what you want and how u wanna hear it i agree your always gonna want better but honestly i dont think im ever gonna change anything about my cars audio now i might add an in dash dvd player with the double din dash kit i found online the other day and keep my radio connected to my dvd player so i can control the radio through the touch screen of my pioneer headunit

here is the best tip you will ever get dont buy from best buy or circuit city they dont sell the good stuff. like with my rockfords i went to a custom audio shop and they said these were 2nd best rockfords you could buy that year the ones above it were power dvc's(2000wts each you have to be insane to get those each one weighed 60 pounds i think) but then i was going to best buy to get some fuses and one of the employees was telling a customer that the ones they had were the best you could buy i had to step in and let him know that he knew absolutely nothing and i gave the customer the number to the place i bought mine. those places know nothing they are just salesmen trying to get you to buy something and they have no idea about what they are selling.

I totally agree i just meant that the company doesn't have any exposure because they are sold nationwide at any store you can get car audio at it was just a way of saying it i guess it wasnt coming out right at that moment

Yeah, what I meant to say was it's great to have a place where people who are inexperienced in modifying cars, to come and ask questions and actually have people that will give you their experiences and advice. I was trying to make it short and sweet so I guess that didn't come out right.

you can do alot with $2000 - I'd suggest Alpine head units, Alpine amplifiers, Boston Acoustics speakers, and JL audio for your sub.....

i just bought infinity kappa 60.7CS ( 6.5" components) for $160 and infinity reference amp 7541a ( 4 channel amp w/ 111W @ 4 ohms) for $180 off ebay brand new. Its alot cheaper than buying the stuff from crutchfield.

i am planning to run the components and a sub off the amp and a new pair of 6x9 rears off my HU.. nothing fancy but its what i want

for head units choices i say go with Alpine, Clarion, or Pioneer
as for an Amp Infinity reference 7541a (4 channel, good for powering 2 pairs of speakers, or 1 set of speakers and small sub), or if you got some cash the infinity reference 7561a (6 channel amp good to power 2 pairs of speakers and 1 sub)
