AVIC-D1 Install *PICS*
thanks for the replies guys ... wildrice: the D1 is ISO mounted to the factory bracket that the factory CD player and pocket is mounted to ... it matches up perfectly.
lowsky: i'm working on a way to bypass that ... yes it involves an external dvd unit, but i think i can make it to wear you can watch video while driving ... not gonna post it though cause i'm sure it will be edited.

the D1 does not play DVD from the unit itself, but you can hookup and external unit to view DVD while the parking brake is on ... Pioneer has done a very good job with making sure video cannot be viewed while driving on this unit ... also, some functions of the navigation are not available while driving either (ie: you cannot create a new destination while driving, but you can search the area for POIs) ... I have to admit it's kind of a good thing, because I can't count the number of times I caught myself messing with previous screens that I had.
I spend way too much time on this website

does this pioneer have a gyroscope like the N2 to stop DVD use while driving or does it just rely on the parking brake circuit.. if its the latter theres an easy way around that

the dash kit is the metra 99-7865 ... the place I got it from no longer carries it, but if you do a search on here there's a link for it, I just can't remember what the website is ... also I think schosche and american international make similar kits.
The Type E's in my opinion are perfect, not weak for me ... I've had plenty of different setups in plenty of different cars, and I used to be into making it sound loud as hell, but now that I'm older it's all about all around sound quality (as well as budget too). I look for a full sound, and that's what I have, and for the price I payed (Best Buy Emp. Discount), you can't beat it.
The AVIC-D1 is not detachable face, and yes I will agree that it does lack a lot of features, but if you're looking for a clean, all in one unit for that nice factory look then this is a decent choice. However, for most you may want to consider the Eclipse line, which offers DVD playback with their navi units ... AVN5435 and AVN5495, the second being their top of the line with a 30gig HDD (10gig for navi) and music juke box, pretty nice unit, just pricey. Anyway, thanks for the comments and opinions!
jknudsen: yes, Muncie and yes, s***hole ... but I'm just finishing up my masters at BSU and I'm out, and I can't wait.
