Car audio inputs for ipod?
Car audio inputs for ipod?
I am a complete newb when it comes to audio so dont laugh at me. Do any aftermarket recievers have accessible inputs? The reason I ask is that I would like to hook my ipod up to my car stereo. I dont like the fm transmitter because it sounds like crap.
If you want to save money and DIY, someone here posted a great link. Basically you have to take out your stock cd, and get an adapter to hook your iPod into the line-in on the back, essentially acting as the stock cd changer (what would normally go there). You then drill a little hole in the back of one of the empty console holes for the cord to come through.

Nowadays most higher-end aftermarket decks have some sort of Auxilary Input for devices, in some cases you might have to buy an extra adapter to have an input. This will only give you RCA's or mini-jack though. Some brands have adapters specifically for ipod control, these can get very costly though on top of the price of the deck.
Have you tried a wired FM modulator yet? It sounds like you might be using a wireless version. You can probably pick one up for around $40 and requires taking out the headunit so you can plug it into the antenna jack. This will give you better sound without changing the HU out.

some head units also have a minijack input right on the face of the HU, no extra adapaters or anything required, just get a cable with 2 3.5mm headphone jacks on it and your all set

many decks have adapters where you can directly control and charge the ipod from the head unit. many many many others have aux in. you can also get an adapter to control the ipod from the stock head unit as well.
