Carputer - needing help

Hi guys. Im new on this. Im from Europe- Portugal

I have an Honda Civic Coupe (1997) and im looking to mount a carputer system on it.

Im having a problem... i dont really know where to start.
The problem is, i already have a touch screen but how to adapt it to work with a pc?

I have the Kenwood Kvt 725, direct DVD, but without Tv or GPS (wich is an aditional cost of 1300usd here)

I was thinking.. how could i use the touchscreen of the radio. The problem is that central brain of the radio has svideo in, and vga in i think... but that wont make the touchscreen work. It will only show the image. Any ideas about what to do?

The touchscreen radio has a cable that connects to the central brain. That cable has about 10 or more cables inside. Do you think it could be adapted to conect usb?

If dont.. i wont be able to use the touchscreen.. and as you see.. i wont get rid of this nice radio

So i have a secound idea. I saw a remote on the ebay, that connects to the pc, and works as keyb and mouse. It costs 25usd

Anyway i wont buy an lcd, so im just looking for the computer.

My other problem is the voltage and the elevate power of the computer to the batery.

I already have many stuff connected. I have the radio kvt725, 1 amp 4*90rms, 1amp 1*1200rms, 1 sub 1200rms (all gladiator), and 2 condesators of 20vdc with 1far each.

I worried aboutputting a pc in there.
Do you think i could mount a normal pc and the inverter, or do you think its better to buy a VIA C3 board and that kind of stuff like this link shows?

I also this next link that a user put in here in other thread.. but since i already have an lcd... and the c is kinda old..what do you think? What could i do with this?

Im really confused. putting a pc on the car would let me have gps an tv

What would you do in place?
Since im a newbie where do you also buy your stuff?

Cheers to you all.
I hope to put my car pics over here very soon

i hope this helps... i'm in the middle of putting a PC into my car too

this site has all the stuff your looking for
www.MP3CAR.com

getting a touch sreen to work is the easy part. with window xp it should install almost everyting automatically. the hard part is the wiring and getting the system to boot up and turn off with your car so that the PC dosent drain the battery

also you should look into a DC-DC power supply like the OPUS 150 watt power supply

if you got the cash go mITX and DC-Dc power supply
on the cheap go with a regular low end computer and an inverter

Ford will become famous soon enough
Programing the touchscreen on your radio to work with a computer is going to be a serious hassle. Unless you get lucky and find drivers or someone who has made them for your radio. That is even if you solder the usb connector properly. You would be better of just getting a lilliput or xenarc from mp3car.com.

They both have two models one with regular vga support and one with vga and touchscreen capabilites. they are both around 7"ish. Mp3car.com sells them directly (and the touchscreen is pre configured, to make sure it aligns correctly) or you can get them from a member there in the forums. and of course there is always ebay

and LowSky is right, definitly go with the opus (150w). It will power most computers, its highly underated in terms of wattage.

mp3car.com also sells shutdown contollers, which prevent your computer/screen from draining the battery. Also search around you'll find ways to make your own.

And most importantly use a 2.5" hard drive if at all possible. They are much more shock resitant, and will last alot longer in a car.

I have a carputer in my car I used a 7" lilliput touchscreen for the monitor, but we are getting ready to work on another computer install in a Protege that has a touch screen CD Player in it. I agree with LowSky go to www.mp3car.com search and ask questions there and you will find answers to any question you can think of. They were a great help working some of the bugs out of my system.

Do what i did buy a wireless keyboard and mouse. Compusa sells a supper small keyboard and a gyromouse, that you would use during presentations. Its around 100.00 and it works perfect. Only other way would to buy a touch screen that has a usb plug so that you can make the touch screen work in the car,.
